I don't think there's any point asking why people do things like this but I had to post about it as I despair of humanity sometimes.

I wonder what the motivation was, Wanting to develop on the land and deciding that it was worth the potential fine to ignore the tree protection orders? Disgusting, if so.

It's in the middle of an urban area, I can't think of any other reason than development potential. I imagine stopping it is why the TPOs were recently put in place.
