Not allowed to register with any GPs!

We have recently moved house and I need to register us with a new GP but it's impossible! Our postcode falls just outside the boundary for all of the local GPs so how on earth do we see a doctor? Anyone been in this situation before?

ask your neighbours who they’re registered with?

SushiSuave · 14/06/2023 21:47

Unfortunately we are part of a small group of new builds and the first ones in so no neighbours to ask yet.

Approach the CCG. They should be able to allocate you to a practice. In the old days this would be done by the PCT and am fairly sure its now a CCG function.

Contact your local integrated care board (details should be findable on google). They will be able advise re practice boundaries and also the status of those practices who have open lists and are accepting patients.

In an emergency you should be able to be seen by a practice as an immediately necessary or emergency patient

We had this issue when I purchased my first house it was so frustrating. Took my son getting a really bad ear infection and me being sent to the out of hours dr to get it resolved. The DR couldn’t understand why no one would let me register (I showed him all the emails from various practices rejecting me) as my child was under 5 he complained to someone and couple days later I got a call from a surgery saying they had reconsidered

If you're in England you can search here: www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-gp
It'll tell you all the nearest GPs and if they're accepting "out of area registrations"

Thank you for the responses, I'll take your advice and see how I get on!

I agree with @Daisymay2 . Contact your local CCG. They’ll have a Patient Allocation service who will arrange a GP surgery for you.

They aren't called CCGs anymore. Just as everyone got their heads round the fact they were no longer PCTs and were CCGs they changed it again.

It's now ICBs or ICS as of about a year ago.
