Hi, we're thinking of moving there and wondered what it's like living there? Is there a friendly community? Nice schools? A few things to do?
Thank you

I fairly recently worked with a Boston school and I know the area from the past. No, I wouldn't describe it as friendly. The school described themselves as 'low aspirational.' The landscape is largely agricultural factory farming, schools and healthcare find it hard to retain staff, Boston itself is desolate compared to the busy market town locals wistfully describe. There is a reason why it voted Brexit, very badly integrated communities.

There are Grammar Schools there, however it is
quite a deprived area. Has a very good tennis club, bizarrely. The historic Boston Stump ( church).

does it have to be there due to family/jobs? If you travel further north into Lincolnshire there is the village of Woodhall Spa, with expensive housing, the market town of Horncastle ( good Grammar school for both). Further south there is Bourne, Stamford and Grantham.

I teach in Boston (I live 20 miles away in a nicer area!). I wouldn't live there it's a wet deprived area. My school is part of a big MAT...and I know the area very well. I'd not move there and wouldn't want my children to go to school in any of the Boston schools.

You'd be better off in Grantham (not a sentence you hear very often) where the secondary schools at least are generally pretty good and there's the East Coast mainline so you can escape easily.

I grew up in New Leake. It's pretty grim, I'm not going to lie. I also wouldn't touch lots of the other areas mentioned either, such as Spalding, Grantham or Holbeach. There are other small towns dotted about the area which are much better, but on the whole I think Lincolnshire is a really backward county and no one should move there by choice. And I say that as a Lincolnshire lass, born and bred.

I grew up in Spalding and couldn’t get away quick enough. The whole area and surrounds is just flat, run down and grey.

Do you have any choices further afield?

Avoid Spalding. Bourne or Market Deeping/Deeping St Nicholas are your best bets. Stamford is lovely but VERY expensive!
