Lindos in Rhodes or Nissaki in Corfu?

I’m trying to book a family holiday for 4 of us - two boys age 11 and 13. I’ve found places that look lovely in both these destinations for similar prices. Air fares are broadly the same.

I don’t know either island. So for people who’ve been to both - our ideal holiday is some sightseeing, nice old buildings and towns etc then lazing by the pool in the afternoon. Maybe a trip to a water park or out on a pedalo. Some nice places for lunch but nothing too busy or too quiet. No bars and we aren’t super bothered about the beach although we like paddle boarding, snorkelling etc.

Which would you choose?!

Lindos

I admire your concise answer, but would you be able to give me any reasons…? Or is it just THAT much nicer?

You can't go far wrong with either. I'd say I saw more pedalos etc in Corfu, and you can sneak in a day trip to Albania, which is nice. But Rhodes is nicer than Corfu.

Corfu has more Italian influenced food, Rhodes more Turkish.

Lindos is gorgeous but very, very hot in July & August. It's the hottest part of the island. I've been loads of times and last year went in October and the temperature was perfect (and I like the heat.)
There's only one hotel in Lindos itself with a pool and that's at the top of the village and a hard walk uphill from the beach in the evening heat.

Lindos is incredible. I loved it so much I went back. It's truly exceptionally beautiful and the sea in Rhodes is incredibly clear. It's mine and my teenager's favourite holiday destination.

They sound lovely! Is there much to do in Rhodes apart from the beach and water? I’m not too worried about the heat as we’ve just come back from living in Sydney for the last 16 years but I will look for a place with air con!

Oh and in both we’d be staying a 10 minute drive or so into the town itself. Would that change your mind?

I've been to Nissaki a couple of times and would go back in a heartbeat. Depends what sort of accommodation. I didn't see any hotels there that I'd have been happy in but we had a fantastic villa. We have also stayed in some small family run apartments which were right on Krouseri beach which were great.

We really love Kalami bay so actually drove the 10 mins to that beach each day and walked to the restaurants that were local to the villa of an evening. Also went to Agni Bay for lunch and dinner and drove to Kassiopi a couple of evenings.

Corfu is my happy place and that particular part of it and the villages on the coast road up to Kassiopi are very beautiful.

I loved lindos and wish I could go back! We stayed about 10 minutes drive from the centre, I wouldn’t say it’s walkable it’s way too warm and along a main road but we’d drive in and there’s plenty of taxis. You can do a boat trip or drive to Faliraki, there’s a huge water park near there as well. We went to the ice bar in Lindos as well.

Oh and also there’s an Astronomy cafe which we loved

I don't think that's right? We stayed in a hotel with a pool that was only a few mins from the beach and not up a hill that I can recall....

Ozgirl75 · 14/06/2023 18:58

Ok so what I’m hearing is that either will be lovely!
