Bedroom door - open or shut

Timefliessofast · 14/06/2023 10:50

Should kids' bedroom doors be open or shut when they are sleeping?

Our door is shut for privacy.
Shut- they need privacy too.
Or open- you need to know what they are up to.

What age? There are so many factors, noise, ventilation, light. Can’t say I’d have a policy.

Gymgoingfool · 14/06/2023 10:55

We had theirs shut and ours semi open unless privacy needed

Newname2323 · 14/06/2023 10:57

Shut in ours, kids go to bed much earlier than me so I don't want to wake them up. Younger two have a baby cam so I can see and hear everything.

Newname2323 · 14/06/2023 10:58

Should add when I go to bed I leave theirs shut and mine open

AngelBlue12 · 14/06/2023 10:58

Our younger ones have their door open otherwise toddler can’t open it in the night and she panics.

Buyyouflowers · 14/06/2023 10:59

All doors are shut here.

BellyBeGone · 14/06/2023 10:59

I think the fire brigade recommend doors shut

CurlewKate · 14/06/2023 11:00

Depends on the child. My ds wanted his shut from the moment he realised it was a possibility. Dd from maybe 8ish? But definitely their choice. And we had a strict knock and wait policy, even if the door was open.

CindersAgain · 14/06/2023 11:00

Whichever they prefer. They always liked it open until about 12/13.

I never shut doors in my house, apart from the bathroom when it's in use. I left it for the DC to decide when they wanted to close theirs.

whoruntheworldgirls · 14/06/2023 11:01

6yr old, open in the heat to allow airflow, normally closed, same for ours

UndercoverCop · 14/06/2023 11:04

Ajar, we have very old doors with high door handles DS can't get out of his room if I properly shut it as he can't reach the handle

Jules912 · 14/06/2023 11:07

Whichever they prefer. I prefer shut for fire safety reasons and so they don't disturb each other, but I also prefer them to sleep which ASD DD won't do if she doesn't get her preference.
