Why does my washing smell bad?

I use the Faith in Nature laundry detergent, no fabric conditioner. I wash bedding at 60 degrees and everything else at 30/40. I noticed stuff was coming out smelling bad so used the dr Beckmann washing machine cleaner as recommended on a 90 degree empty wash but it’s made no difference at all. Can anyone advise please?

Is it a liquid or powder detergent?
Liquids don't contain bleaches to help keep the drum clean
Have you cleaned the filter and the dispenser drawer?

LemonSwan · 14/06/2023 09:38

Clean out the filters. White Vinegar everything.

Hi it’s a liquid! I didn’t know that, should I get a bleach product to use as well in between washes do you think then? Yes I’ve cleaned the filter and the drawer.

Oh yes I’ve heard of using white vinegar! Thanks

Give your machine a clean by putting on a cycle with white vinegar.

I had this problem. I cleaned out my machine thoroughly. Still had the problem. Switched my liquid detergent for powder and it stopped.

Yep, me too. I was using capsules but then switched to powder. I make sure to do regular 60 washes too.

I had this happen once and it was a partially blocked outlet pipe iirc. Basically the dirty water not leaving the drum.

PenelopePlant · 19/09/2023 20:51

I always use white vinegar in the softener compartment, in place of conditioner. Keeps the machine clean, and softens the clothes nicely

I switched from gel etc to powder from Aldi.
Stopped the smell. Aldi powder works well.

I also leave door propped open between washes & regularly clean out the rubber seal around the door.

I switched to powder as my new washing machine had started to smell musty and it’s all fine now.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 19/09/2023 20:59

I had this with liquid detergent, I went back to powder and it was fine.

HouseHassle · 19/09/2023 20:59

I had this the other week. Chucked 3 dishwasher tablets in the drum, a bit of disinfectant in the drawer and stuck it on a 90 degree cycle. No more smells!

Give the rubber door gasket a good clean. There is probably gunge caught under the rim.
