How to deal with jealousy

A friend and colleague has come into some work-related good fortune (partly monetary and partly not - two things completely unrelated). and I feel really horrible but can't help feeling jealous. How do you deal with this kind of thing? I feel like such a nasty person but I just feel resentful. Neither thing is a big deal that will have any impact long-term, just nice things and instead of being happy for her, I'm all 'why not me?' (not aloud though!).

Well, run with that thought: “Why not me?”

Why isn’t it you? Is there any reason it couldn’t be you? What can you do so that it could be you? Being jealous certainly won’t do anything to make it you, can you turn the jealousy into ideas or goals instead?

I think jealousy can give you insight into what you need/lack in your own life. You can turn it into incentive to try to work on achieving that in your own life (in some form).

I have experienced similar, I always put it down to my own insecurities.
Best advice is don't show it and think of ways to boost yourself!

I probably should have explained (but obviously don't want to go into detail) that the good fortune is literally luck, so it's not a case of she's worked hard at something/shown a skill and been rewarded and I could think about how I could improve. It's more like being jealous because someone has a lovely house because their dh earns loads, if that makes sense.

I definitely think my insecurities are coming into play. I think that's why I feel bad - I'm disappointed in myself.
