Libraries in the same county

So there are several libraries under the same umbrella where I live in North Yorkshire and I visit them all with my DD. I've always been really careful to make sure not to mix up the books from different branches when returning them.

Is that right or can I return them to any branch?

I'm quite shy so haven't dared to ask so wondered if there was someone on here who could tell me what the etiquette is

Maybe you could send them an email to ask?

You can return to any branch of a library under the same umbrella.

In my area they ask you to put some in a bin when you return them, rather than on the shelves - this gets said when you put them into the machine.

Also - abandon your fear of asking questions, especially in places like libraries where theya re keen to help"

In our county, you can return them to any branch. I use the same card when I visit them all so if I already had the maximum number of books out, I couldn't get more by visiting another library (well, unless I returned some on that visit)

My library is part of libraries west which seems to cover all of the South West and I can return books to any library. They just say put it in the return bin instead of the shelf if it's got far to go.
I live in Bristol and once reserved a book that was on the shelf in Poole! Think someone walked it up as it took months but I got it in the end!

Hiya, librarian here. Yes, you can unless stated otherwise in the library itself but I can't imagine why not. We get loads of crates full of our books that have been returned to all different libraries. And please don't be worried, we are all usually very friendly, that's why we do our jobs, honest!

Depends what the policy is (maybe check the website if you don't want to ask) - but if you don't return them to their home library they'll have to be sent home and they'll be out of commission until they get there.

Not only can you return books from other county council libraries at the library I work at but also any from lots of London boroughs and any in Essex (which is no where near us).

Elefant1 · 13/06/2023 21:48

I work in a library and where I work you can return books to any library in the county. Don't be afraid to ask in your library, it is a question I have been asked many times, a perfectly normal question. I have been asked far weirder questions 😂

Thanks for your help everyone. I'm going to double check today when we go to the library today but i think from your responses it probably will be ok. Thanks again

Yep I go to two or three in the same county and return to different ones. Just place on shelf if that library or in the bin where I assume they then sort and transport around
and please do ask libraries can be a very good place to start with talking to people.
mine do have children’s activities as well such as rhyme time
