I’ve had this bite for a couple of days. It’s not itchy. It’s swollen, hot and feels like a bruise when I touch it. I’ve taken antihistamines but seems to be getting hotter and more painful. Should I seek medical advice to see if it’s infected or just wait a few more days? Thanks

I would say so as it’s spreading. Draw a dotted pen line around the circumference, so you can see how much it is spreading.

Weathergirl007 · 13/06/2023 21:28

Yeah that’s a good idea. I’ll do that and see if it’s any worse by the morning. Thank you

I get a lot of bites and that looks like the start of cellulitis.

I'd get someone to look at that, asap.

I'd say you need antibiotics for that as it's becoming infected in the surrounding tissues. Mark it with a pen and see the GP or ANP tomorrow as these things can turn nasty.

Tinkerbyebye · 13/06/2023 21:31

It’s infected that’s how I bite I had went you need to see the nurse or gp as soon as poss

DeathMetalMum · 13/06/2023 21:36

If the skin isn't broken try hydrocortisone cream. Also keeping the leg elevated and a cold compress, draw around the area and book an appointment tomorrow. I get very bad reactions, have had antibiotics several times.

About four weeks ago I visited the nurse around 48 hours after the bite, looking similar to yours. She reccomended the above for another 24 hours suggesting it possibly was an initial inflammatory reaction, but also gave some antibiotics just in case. I didn't need to take the antibiotics in the end as the following day everything calmed down.

sproutsandparsnips · 13/06/2023 21:45

I would say if you are systemically well it's not likely to be infected. Bites do incur a lot of inflammation as they are a foreign substance so your body's defence mechanisms go into overdrive. If however you are unwell with a fever etc, you should seek medical advice ASAP.

Thanks all. I’ve drawn a line around the redness and if any worse by the morning I’ll get it looked at.

My bites get like that and the advice has been loads of antihistamines.

Bluebells1970 · 14/06/2023 10:38

How's it looking today OP?

Weathergirl007 · 14/06/2023 18:28

Better thank you! Still painful and swollen but the red area has definitely reduced.

Thanks for the advice

Hi op.. if I'm honest that looks like a tick bite. My daughter had one. Antibiotics will sort it out. I would recommend speaking to ur gp

WunWun · 14/06/2023 18:38

This is how it looks every single time I'm bitten by a mosquito. My DD is the same.

Weathergirl007 · 15/06/2023 20:12

Bite update! The redness hasn’t spread but the area has now gone purple, hard and feeling more bruised / painful. Assume as it’s not spread it’s not infected? Sorry to ask but just couldn’t get to a pharmacy today x

Looks like every mozzie bite that i get. Some people react worse than others

SoAndSoSaidSo · 15/06/2023 20:28

Cleg bites for me get bigger than that. But looks the same.
One time I had a huge swollen foot from one bit.

putthatdownsteve · 15/06/2023 20:33

That’s like every bite I’ve ever had. I’ve got two on my legs at the moment, just got in from the garden, felt an itch and now I’ve got one on my thigh. The huge bumps go hard. It’s been the same since I was a child.

They end up looking like a bruise after a few days. I’m covered in them every summer. I react badly to whatever is biting me!
