Dp and random job thing... what do you think?

Okay this is weird one but I'm wanting different opinions. About a year ago my DP got offered his dream job, it literally was his dream job after spending a long time searching. At the last min the company was making people redundant and the offer was rescinded. DP was devastated but such is life some times. He remained in good form with HR and was very gracious despite the last min cancelling of the 'new job' literally 1 week before he was due to start. Anyway...
Fast forward to two days ago and out of the complete blue the HR head is in uk ( from
Canada) and has asked if DP can meet him for a coffee.

If this were you , What do you think this could be about?

Is he gonna get offered the job again or is it a " oh hey I'm in the country lets meet for a chat". Meeting is arranged for fri but DP won't ask what it's about ( to my bloody annoyance)

Anyone any thoughts

No clue, but placemarking for the answer

MeinKraft · 13/06/2023 21:35

It won't be a chat for no reason, it will almost certainly be about opportunities they want him to fill I'd imagine.

Hellocatshome · 13/06/2023 21:35

He might have an opportunity to run past DH. I doubt he would care enough to spend time just meeting your DH for the sake of it.

No one can say for sure, I think if it does involve a job offer then I’d find it hard to trust them after what happened last time!

twinkledoggie · 13/06/2023 21:36

Isn't it so peculiar?! I'm really intrigued lol

I know, this is the issue. However he is in a job that he HATES atm so I think if it was a potential job offer he'd take it to get him out of the current situation

I would imagine its a job offer.

Peppermint81 · 13/06/2023 21:39

Definitely job opportunity!
Very exciting for your husband if it's his dream.

Don't worry about previous redundancies - could of been for many reasons 'restructuring' I.e getting rid of the dead wood etc. you can check finance status of company on company house etc

twinkledoggie · 13/06/2023 21:41

I know honestly I'm really excited to hear. I'll be so gutted for him if its something stupid lol

BillyNoM8s · 13/06/2023 21:41

If it's not about a job offer then I'd definitely bin these time wasters off!

If it is a job offer then I'd be using the previous fuck up as leverage for a very good salary.

twinkledoggie · 13/06/2023 21:42

I'll
Keep you all posted on what happens. Honestly it would be a dream come true

Update! The meeting was brought forward and DP has be offered the dream job again.
What would you do ? He's nervous incase they do it again on him etc ( but yet he's secretly really excited) please give me your thoughts and opinions... it would mean so much to me

It's better to run to something than away from something

Love this!!! I don't think he has anything to lose but its that old saying, once bitten twice shy.

Surly nobody would rememploy someone then make them redundant again lol

Have you watched 'Fun with Dick and Jane'? I'd be wary.

Changeforachange · 15/06/2023 21:22

You know what, I think they've clearly been through a rough patch and are now in a stronger position to employ.

Worst case scenario, it doesn't work out, he gets another job but he can be happy he tried & now has dream job experience on his CV.

Lamelie · 15/06/2023 21:24

He’s in a very strong position. If he takes the job he should ask for reduced or no probation, early leaving package on both sides- for eg. If he’s made redundant within the first year they pay him for the year.

I've not seen it. What is the story?

He really has nothing to lose. Dream job, better money, better holidays, better pension, big bonus.

He really isn't happy in current job and the nature of the work means it's not likely to change anytime soon

Have a look at the company stats on Linked in - it gives a good idea of how the company is growing. Also check the company accounts if you can.

It's seems they made lots of redundancies and are now in a much better place. I get the impression there was lots of duplicate roles so I dunno if it was a case of giving the place a good clearing out and starting a fresh. At the time when they rescinded the offer they gave him a very generous package which they didn't have to do ( if that makes a difference)

The same as happened to your DH but it turns out it was all a set up to get Dick to take the fall for (failing) the company.

coxesorangepippin · 15/06/2023 21:43

Well of course he should accept it

Will you move to Canada??

Aquamarine1029 · 15/06/2023 21:46

I'm hoping it's an amazing job offer. That would be so exciting! I'm very interested to find out!
