Stay in job for short commute

Started a new job a few months ago. Not really what I expected and I'm not really enjoying it. But, I have two young kids and the commute is less than 10 minutes! After years of commuting an hour plus each way it's so nice have some time back at the beginning and end of the day.

Would you stay in a job just for the short commute?

I would stay for now and in the mean time look for something else that might come up close by that you might prefer.

The best careers advice I’ve been given is that we should not think about our next job, but the one after that. That keeps you on a long term track.

So what do you really want to do long term? Have a highflying career in something you love? If so, you might want to sacrifice the commute to get a job that pushes you up the ladder. Or will time with your kids always be more important? If so, sticking in your current t place to move on internally might be right for now

Thanks for replies. Guess I'm just wondering how much importance other people place on a short commute and if that outweighs other factors

I think @Infusionist explains it perfectly.

FWIW, I'm the short commute type.
