Hello. I had asst minute appt today at a specialist clinic for menopause problems. I’d been looking forward to starting the conversation but was also nervous for some reason.

They tried to take my BP 5 or 6 times and each time it was “sky high” and now I’m in a state. It was over 200 and I’m really worried.
They told me they can prescribe HRT but I need to let them have 5 days worth of BP readings before they do this.

This has really shocked and worried me and I wondered if anyone has had similar?

TIA

There's a well known thing that happens to some people when they get their BP checked, my med student child tells me they call it something like "white coat induced hypertension." You might find that if you get a monitor at home and do it many times a day, you will get used to doing it, and hopefully your results will be fine! Best of luck!

"White Coat Syndrome" is very common so you may find your home readings are way lower.
If your BP is still too high it does not mean you can't ever have HRT, it just means you will need to control your BP with medication before starting it. That happens more often than you think

Thanks both. I’m really hoping it’s ok!

white coat syndrome. It’s incredibly common. The only time I had a true reading was when my friend took my BP as she was my midwife and we were so busy chasing I forgot what she was doing.

Chatting not chasing,

Also BP is really easy to control with meds, I have high blood pressure and have been taking meds for 2.5 yrs now. It's just a little tablet before bed. No drama.

I had this once aged 22 - I was stressed because I’d had to park on a yellow line and was terrified of a parking ticket ! Ever since then it has been ok.

My BP readings are always sky high when I go to the doctors.
I need regular appointments and I now get asked to take readings at home, which are much lower and within normal parameters.

Don't fret.
