I can't believe I've been so bloody stupid.

I was playing a game on my phone this evening. I somehow managed to click on purchase, I didn't even see what I had clicked. As soon as I realised I tried to stop it but it went through anyway. Over £100 went out straight away on some stupid game boosts. I've never gone into the shop on that game, I don't ever buy anything on it and I really, really can't afford ir.
I've looked on the Play Store and it says refunds can be requested within 48 hours so I've done that and it's under review.
I don't really think they will give me a refund though.
Has anyone had a refund in similar circumstances? I reported it as soon as it happened. I've never even spent as much as £1 on the game so maybe that might help.
I've had a stressful day and this has made it 1000 times worse.

I think if you don’t “spend”/use the boosts you should be okay

BitOutOfPractice · 12/06/2023 23:29

Oh no! It really shouldn’t be so easy to spend so much money should it? I really hope you get it back and quickly.

I once bought a brain training game on my iPhone for £50 something and I stupidly meant to click to pay whatever if was per month. I messaged apple and they did give me my money back.

My DS spent £100 on a game once, I thought I had it all locked down but apparently not. I requested the refund straight away and got it back no problem. Good luck!

Utterlypeanuterly · 12/06/2023 23:33

I haven't used any of it. I don't even know how I did it. I went back and looked at the shop section and the one I bought is way down the list - I don't even know how I got to that one. I wasn't even scrolling, just hitting my back button.

Did it take long for them to refund you?

I'd happily pay a processing fee if necessary as it was more than likely my own fault although I don't know how i managed to click on something that is quite far down a long list rather than a cheap one at the top of the list.

Nope - was pending the next day I think, and back on a few days just like any other refund from a shop.

i did it recently i did a free trial to one of the dna sites, forgot to cancel it on time and next thing £120
out my bank! and i was soooooo skint!!!! honestly i've never sent such begging letters and tell u it was a conquest even trying to find a customer service bit, but they did give me a refund albeit 3 weeks later which they didn't actually have to do! so just keep fingers and toes crossed, u just
might get someeone sympathetic and who actually cares! good luck x x

My refund was denied. I am so upset. I am waiting to speak to someone on online chat now.

OP posts:
Tilllly · 13/06/2023 22:28

Oh no!

Keep pushing
It's so unfair given you've not used it and immediately flagged it up

Utterlypeanuterly · 13/06/2023 22:53

I spoke to someone on chat. He insisted there was no grounds for a refund. I really pushed and he agreed to escalate it to a manager but I'm not very hopeful.
The payment went through PayPal. I wonder if they or the bank could help at all.
I'm so worried and upset. I just can't understand how it even happened.

Can you raise a claim through PayPal? So sorry x

Utterlypeanuterly · 13/06/2023 23:08

It says on PayPal that it has to be done through Google.
I think I have been stupidly honest. There were options to tick for reason for refund and one is Purchased by Accident. I chose that one bit as thry obviously don't refund for that reason I think it's dishonest of them to have it there. I think if I had ticked Friend/Family purchased without permission I would have got the refund.

I escalated my complaint through Google Play and I got an email saying they had tried processing a refund but it is beyond their capability and to contact the app developer.

I have forwarded their email to the developer as it seems like they have admitted I should be refunded but need the developer to do it.
Fingers crossed.

I feel your pain Op. my cat sat on my iPad earlier when I was in the middle of a game and made a purchase. I don’t know how much it is going to cost me yet, I’m praying for it to be a couple of pounds. Hope you get a refund

Utterlypeanuterly · 17/06/2023 23:44

I got the refund! Back in my account yesterday. So relieved.
