Anyone else absolutely amazed that a 13 year old basically kept her siblings inc a baby alive for 40 days ? I haven’t seen a thread about this remarkable child and it really makes me think about the resilience that she had 👏

She is a hero! There was a survival expert on the radio yesterday talking about it and he said he would have struggled for that long, and had no idea how she had not only survived but kept her siblings including a baby alive too

Incredible. I haven't stopped being able to think about it. Truly amazing.

Absolutely incredible, so much trauma those children have been through and to survive that long and to keep the baby alive is nothing short of a miracle.

Honestly no. And I feel for the 9 year-old that has been over looked, and probably the 4 year-old. They grew up in the jungle, childhood is not the same as it is in the UK.

We farm, from a very young age our children have been involved by 9 they can milk cows and drive a tractor (yes under close supervision but they know what to do)

The family say they were used to being together without adults, that they knew how to identify safe food.

She's an amazing girl! To keep herself, her young siblings including a baby alive in the jungle for 40 days is scarcely believable as many adults would struggle to stay alive in such circumstances. What a remarkable young girl she is. I'm so happy they've all been found alive and well.

What a horrible thing for their mother to go through. Poor kids. I hope they're going to be ok. A very brave and determined little bunch.

The Guardian has followed the story closely with loads of coverage.
It is fascinating.
The eldest child is remarkable.
So sad their mother didn’t make it but it sounds like a strong supportive wider family.

I just think that the amount of attention we give our children just doesn’t compare with how we would cope keeping our child alive in a dense jungle ensuring they do not eat anything poisonous! Then throw in the trauma of what the children had witnessed after plane crash …absolutely harrowing 😣

It's just so moving. I feel terrible for the mother who watched them go, presumably not knowing if they would survive.

Unbelievable bravery
