Umbrella stands

Not the most thrilling topic, I know.

We are currently staying in a holiday home full of little decorative things - some functional, some purely decorative (and some which are in between - functional but the design of them makes them impractical). There is a nice metal umbrella stand near the front door and I’ve spent the past few minutes pondering if we could do with one at home - it has a little tray to catch the drips, and umbrellas would always be in the right place (instead of rifling through the shoe cupboard hunting for it when we are running late). But the rest of the time it would just…be there, cluttering up our (fairly narrow) hallway.

I don’t think anyone I know has one. Does anyone here use one?

Yes! I have a modern one from Umbra. So handy, and looks neat. You always know where to look for an umbrella. Get one!

The Umbra one on the John Lewis website (I assume they only make the one) is smart, but does it work with little umbrellas too?

Happy to be persuaded! DH will think I’ve lost the plot if I tell him this is what I’m spending the holiday musing about.

Yes...it's an Art Nouveau pottery one (Bretby) in a deep turquoise colour. Wouldn't be without it!

Yes we have one in our porch, so useful!

GoddessOfFire · 12/06/2023 22:13

Me, very useful. Umbrellas, golf umbrellas, walking poles.

I misread this as “golf clubs” initially, and wondered how big your umbrella stand must be!

A basket that arrived originally as a gift hamper, umbrellas are left open in the porch until dry then put in.

JennyTheDonkey · 12/06/2023 22:20

I have 2 - one for umbrellas, hockey sticks etc and one for wrapping paper

Hedgesgalore · 12/06/2023 22:21

We live in Wales, I have a multitude of umbrellas.

GiantKitten · 12/06/2023 22:24

Yes, a wicker one with a handle across the top.
It’s only about 6” wide and tucks neatly into a corner.
Loads on Amazon.

We are a house of umbrella refusers! They are utterly pointless to us so no umbrella stand here 😂
don’t they just gather a smelly puddle of water in there over time?

Only if you put them in dripping wet 🤷🏼‍♀️
Do you put footwear away soaking wet?
Leave open on the mat first to drain off and dry.

I love umbrellas! I have two stands full! This sounds like the one you saw although it’s so full you can’t actually see it!

Yes, v similar to this!

I hadn’t thought about them needing to dry off first. That’s less appealing.

Do they not somehow turn into dumping grounds? I can’t think what else I would inadvertently put in them but I’m sure I would find something.
