We've been part of the avios scheme for a few years now. We've previously manged to save up enough avios to fly long-haul business class, which has been fab. Couldn't have afford it otherwise. We acquired the avios due to a few once in a life time purchases we made that meant we could gain avios at the same time.
DH is now getting obsessed with earning avios to get long-haul business class again. To the point where he is wanting to change bank accounts so we can get the avios bonus for switching. I'm not adverse to switching banks but our current banking set up is easy and works a treat. Its the hassle of changing it all over, new debit cards etc. All our accounts would have to change - and we have several with our current bank - and I would have set up new online banking pass codes etc. It would be a right headache, He's also talking of getting a credit card which has a huge avios bonus offer when you join .. but the card costs £595 a year ! we don't have that sort of money to splash out on card fees. However, the joining avios you get for the card fee is by far much better than buying or earning the avios. We have other credit cards, so having a credit card is not the issue, but paying the card annual fee is.
I've said no to all this but he just says that I am ruining the chance to fly business class again and costing us money by the amount we will have to fork out to fly due to not having the fare covered entirely by avios.
To add, we are looking to go away in 2025 for a special one-off birthday celebration, hence the avios for the flight.
I just think he is going OTT with it all, to the point of obsession.
