Helping out on school trips

My year 3 DC REALLY wants me to go along and help out on their upcoming school trip. They asked last year as well but I couldn't get the time off work. The problem is I only have limited holiday allowance and I'd personally prefer to save it for other things like days out with DC, going away or the occasional school event like their Christmas play or sports day etc. But should I make the effort? Is this the sort of thing it's important to do as a parent, even if it means we can't do something else because I've used that days leave? DC says about the other mums who go and it's making me feel guilty but I know that the ones who are going don't have work that day / at all.
Thanks for your thoughts

Parent helpers still go on some trips with our school but everyone has to be DBS cleared. Quite a few of us have been because we do reading with the kids, and the whole PTA is too so they can volunteer. Mostly we don’t go, but once a year they do a whole school trip to a local place and that does need quite a few extra pairs of hands. I also went on one to be my son’s 1-2-1, before he got his EHCP and an official 1-2-1 TA who now goes instead of me. The school do try and organise the groups so any kids who would be upset not to have their parent in their group are with them, otherwise they just put you with whichever (I wasn’t with DS this year but DH was, for instance. DS didn’t give two hoots but he can easily go either way!).

Kids like to have their parents there but if you can’t do it you can’t.

I went on once when I was made redundant and decided to have a couple months off. Did think about working with kids but after that day I changed my mind lol. So tiring. Teachers and teaching assistants need a medal. Didn't help that the weather was awful. Also my son was in my group but we moved him to another half way through as he was showing off and being silly because I was there. Teachers were shocked as normal well behaved.
