Fake eyelashes

I'm all for making the most of yourself. But can someone explain what the actual fuck are these bat wings on eyes are for? Do they enhance vision or are they protecting the eyeball?

Or .. do they actually look good and I'm really out of the game and should get some bat wings for my eyes?

I know one person they look good on but she has them only slightly longer than her normal eye lashes.
