Can I put ratatouille in a curry?

I have zero tins of tomatoes or passata in, but I do have a lonely looking tin of ratatouille lurking at the back of the cupboard.
Can I blitz it up and whack it in the pan for a curry, or would that be gross?

It’s courgette, onions and aubergine isn’t it? That sounds delicious for a curry! I wouldn’t bother blitzing it . I’d have sugar and salt on hand to balance the flavours but it sounds great.

I've never heard of tinned ratatouille so don't know what's in it, but if it's largely veg and tomato sauce, then surely it isn't far off a curry base anyway?

I can't see why it wouldn't work. I've had curries with tomatoes (obviously), aubergines, gourds/squashes that are similar to courgettes, onions… what else is in ratatouille?

Ive never had tinned ratatouille, but if its like a homemade one then it'll do the job just great. Just put it in and add the curry powder and any other spices. I wouldn't even bother blending it tbh and would just throw it in.

Fab, thank you. I really need to get better at auditing the cupboards! I'll report back on the weird curry / ratatouille mix.

I'd just chuck it in as is tbh.

And that'll teach me to refresh the page before posting Hmm

Dh finds me a bit ridiculous but I actually get very stressed if I don't have at least one tin of toms and one of baked beans in.

Keitharingsbitch · 11/06/2023 20:25

As a replacement for yineed tons I recon it's fine. It will poss have Italian herbs but I reckon the other spices will overpower them.

Do report back op!

Only 1 - I have to have mine in double figures or I am almost out of them. 😃
I have a friend who lived on tinned Ratatouille at one time and would mix the taste up using Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern spices etc and eat with rice or other grains so this is no different.
I would put it in and add chickpeas, bet it will be delicious, I love Ratatouille and make a big pan and freeze in individual portions.

I aspire to have a pantry large enough for that @Carpediem15 !!
The other day dc wanted beans with dinner. Dh went to the shop for another tin because there was only one left in the cupboard. Dc were totally bewildered Grin

Legaldrama · 12/06/2023 12:47

Well I can safely say the curry is lush!

I think one of the dc must have won the tin of ratatouille in a tombola or something, or maybe DH picked it up on one if his rare supermarket shops, but it was blinking delicious. I might some more tins, it'd probably be lush with couscous

I quite often use it if the recipe calls for 2 tins of tomatoes I use 1 tin of tomatoes and 1 of ratatouille. It's wonderful in bolognese, moussaka, tagines and pasta bakes.
