Holiday before KS2 Sats during Easter Holidays?

Looking to book a holiday for April next year during the Easter Holidays. KS2 Sats are the following month. Would this be a bad idea? Are children expected to spend their Easter holiday revising?

Completely fine to have a holiday then.

Mumof1andacat · 11/06/2023 18:51

My son is due to complete Sat's next May. He is not spending his holiday revising. He's 11. I would be reluctant for gcses or a levels but not at this age.

I've booked 2 weeks away. Just make sure he reads.

Key stage 2 is what age? Year 6? Nope no revising needed.

Awcw1234 · 11/06/2023 19:25

Yes, year 6. I just wasn’t sure if schools expect the children to spend the time preparing for them?

The only out of school revision my daughter did before her year 6 sats last year was maths questions in a workbook that she could have taken away on holiday with her.

Given that the sats are to show effectiveness of teaching in the school, rather than qualifications the students can carry into employment, they'd have a damn cheek expecting kids to give up their free time to revise.

Absolutely fine, perhaps just get him to do some reading, but something that he enjoys.

Spidertights · 11/06/2023 19:35

Our Y6s got a booklet of holiday homework to complete - with a few days grace on coming back for those away/ill/who couldn't be arsed. It will vary by school but I'd definitely not cancel a holiday for it!

Thank you! You’ve all reassured me that I’m not being a irresponsible parent 😂
