I’m afraid I only stalk our local Wetherspoons. 😄

Yes, I queried our bill last night as it was £8.25 and is uusually £5.48 - luckily they had charged us for the wrong beer and normal service was resumed.

And yes, we do go there quite often...

On holiday in France, just after the euro, xh misread the wine list and insisted on ordering an 84€ bottle of wine, thinking it was 84FF. Bit of a difference.

Twillow · 11/06/2023 18:55

I drew the line at £15 for a cocktail in a very ordinary restaurant the other day, particularly as the week before I'd had one for £7 in a nicer restaurant. Had a beer instead.

I'm completely desensitised having just returned from Disney World for 2 weeks, I was thrilled if a drink was under $15 😬

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/06/2023 18:55

20 euro in ferraguido for a monkey47 gin and tonic, which was going on FILs bill.. luckily he saw the funny side and has taken the piss out of me ever since .. it came to more than the other 3 drinks on its own. 🤣

£60 for a bottle of bog standard wine in Stockholm pre covid.

filka · 11/06/2023 18:59

The drink that shocked me was a Carlsberg for £6 - but it was in a 5* hotel in Cairo in 1976. We'd just arrived, gone there to change money and were feeling a bit thirsty.

We went to Prague for DD's 21st birthday, and we spent a very merry evening in the rooftop bar of the Hilton old town. Gorgeous views, drinks were incredible. I had a headache for 2 days afterwards.

We worked out afterwards that the cocktails were about £30 each Shock and poor DH was drinking orange juice all evening. There's a photo of me sparked out on the bed wearing a shower cap that our DD's love to share as a memory on FB Hmm

DW drinks are a different thing.
Well made in a bar, the mark up is something I'll accept.
Shit, pre prepared crap, over sugary nonsense, not so much.

ManAboutTown · 11/06/2023 19:05

For those who have been to the Shard I've done the bottomless brunch there - it was about 350 quid for two

For an individual drink I think about 30 quid

DyslexicPoster · 11/06/2023 19:07

Didn't buy one but £17 for Pimms at RHS Chelsea. I snuck cans of wine in. Thank god

Myonlysunshine123 · 11/06/2023 19:09

I thought my £8.50 for a single wine in the next town was bad, I still drank 3 and went to the co op on the way home to prove that I could get a bottle ALOT cheaper 🤣🤣

Christ at these, I was shocked at a £9.50 margarita in a plastic cocktail cup in Camden recently, and the table was wobbly.

A cocktail's a tenner in any standard bar in the Midlands- you got a bargain!

Apricotflanday · 11/06/2023 19:12

£4.50 for a mango smoothie in Edinburgh last week, but I'm not well off so I don't buy expensive drinks often!

The business I used to work in owned the Prague Hilton - when I went there it seemed to specialise in brown decor. Amazed you got charged so much to be honest

As long as you stay away from tourist traps Prague is actually quite a cheap place to drink

shelbabab · 11/06/2023 19:15

About £30 something for a cocktail in the burj al Arab and that was 11yrs ago. I bet it's at least double now! It was also rotten, just tasted really strongly of alcohol. Also it was a minimum spend so I had to buy 2 or maybe it was 3 to get to the minimum spend per person!

€65 for a coke (no booze) in Monaco

Nolongera · 11/06/2023 19:18

I nearly paid £7.20 for a pint in Newcastle arena, I told them to keep it.

My first legal pint was 18p. Drunk for less than a quid.

MorrisZapp · 11/06/2023 19:19

I found drink prices in America a lot higher than I expected. The six dollar fresh lemonade on Boston Common was worth every cent though, I still think about it!

gdjb · 11/06/2023 19:26

@MorrisZapp yes prices in the US have jumped massively since Covid and the exchange rate doesn't help. I used to find their measures more than made up for it, very liberal, but didn't notice the liberal application we've found in other states in Florida, apart from one stonking margarita at Epcot that nearly forced me back to the hotel for an afternoon nap ha!

gdjb · 11/06/2023 19:27

Plus you have the expectation of tipping

What, and I cannot state this enough, the actual fuck?

Did it have actual Coke in it?

Whataretalkingabout · 11/06/2023 19:43

$17 for a pint of lager at JFK International departures in March 2022. Whatareyoutalking about?

Highfivemum · 30/03/2024 20:17

Mine was for a drink I never had.
On a hotel break with DC and my eldest decided to open the mini bar fridge while I was washing my hands and take out two small bottles of wine, a bottle of beer, and a mini champagne. I quickly put them back in but was charged as they had a motion sensor on them. !!!
183 pounds and I didn’t even get to drink it. !!

Kitkat1523 · 30/03/2024 20:29
