Last night 2 cocktails in the American Barat the Savoy £45. It was lovely and part of a planned treat evening though, but bloody hell

Ringmaster27 · 11/06/2023 18:18

£26 for a G&T at a theatre in London not that long ago!

LilacpointMummy · 11/06/2023 18:18

£17 for a gin and tonic at Belfast International airport a couple of weeks ago. It was a double but still!!! I really needed it after a few days with my mother 😆

FrogsHiccups · 11/06/2023 18:19

At a rooftop bar in Bangkok. 4 champagne cocktails were the equivalent of £250!

Plankingplanks · 11/06/2023 18:20

Accidentally paid £120 for 2 glasses of prosecco on honeymoon in Thailand. You bet they lasted over an hour!! They offered to send the rest of the bottle to our room. Nearly choked telling them no thank you!! We'd only paid for 2 glasses.

icebearforpresident · 11/06/2023 18:22

A small glass of house white at a London theatre, £32 for 2. One for me, one for my mum, who spilled down herself it with the first 5 minutes of the show (The Play that goes Wrong, she practically did a spit take, threw her body forward laughing and the wine down herself). It was shit wine as well.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 11/06/2023 18:23

£10 for a small cup of chamomile tea in Iceland about 20 years ago. Yes, I am still bitter about it.

Livinginaclock · 11/06/2023 18:26

They tried to charge me £3 for water at Manchester Arena and I said no, found a steward and he got me a free glass/plastic cup.
Ditto any gig venue.
I'm not paying for water.

I think I'm just a skinflint!

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 18:26

£18.50 for glass of quite average wine in Switzerland

First rule of going out in Norway - don’t look at the bill.

£45 for a glass of fizz in Oslo… running theme here

alcohol is heavily regulated so I guess expensive

00deed1988 · 11/06/2023 18:27

£15.00 for a shot of tequila in a club in London 13 years ago. I was a skint 20 yo who had predrinks before going to this club for my friends birthday and thought a shot would be the best way to keep my alcohol levels up....I wanted to cry! That was my only drink there that night!

Was it the scene where one of the characters stood on the dead mans hand? If so, I don't blame your Mum, TPTGW is hilarious😂

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/06/2023 18:31

20 odd Euros for a Bellini in Harry's Bar in Venice.

I've had massively more expensive drinks but someone else paid!

Sarahtm35 · 11/06/2023 18:33

I didn’t buy it but I’ve shared a bottle of Champaign that cost £800 bloody ridiculous but wasn’t my decision 🥴

Ilovebountybars · 11/06/2023 18:35

About 6 euros for a white Russian in a bar in Italy. That's probably considered cheap but I rarely order alcohol when I go to a bar.

Rapidtango · 11/06/2023 18:35

The equivalent of AU$90 for 2 whisky sours at The Peninsula, Hong Kong. Twenty years ago.

Reading these I'm starting to understand why the family youth sneak hip flasks in to bars. Some of these prices are daylight robbery.

icebearforpresident · 11/06/2023 18:36

@Lagershandy I honestly don’t remember, it was early on in the performance and as we sat down I said don’t spill it because I’m not buying another one at that price (I’m from Scotland, could buy multiple rounds for £32 in my local!)

Must admit, despite being able to see the jokes coming a mile off I throughly enjoyed the show.

Derrymum123 · 11/06/2023 18:38

I feel hard done to spending more than a fiver for a drink. In my mind I have 1980s prices.
When in Dublin I try not to convert euros into pound sterling. I prefer to feign ignorance to myself. Ignorance is bliss there.

msmonstera · 11/06/2023 18:42

Probably €60 for two Bellinis in Harry's Bar, Venice.
The one that rankles is the piss-take of €30 for two (pint) glasses of coke in Paris in about 2003. Tourist season, tourist area, but still.
We stole the glasses.

It was about £12 a pint in Stavanger (pre Covid times).

bravotango · 11/06/2023 18:46

£25 for a shot of tequila in St Tropez!

SquigglePigs · 11/06/2023 18:48

I remember being shocked at an £8 pint of lager in Chicago airport 15 years ago. It would probably shock me less these days as I've been to more expensive places but at the time I was horrified!

£15-19 for a single port or something after a meal in a Michelin restaurant also registers. Can't remember which one though.

ClashCityRocker · 11/06/2023 18:50

£90 for a plum sake and a port.

We were at quite a fancy place but all the apertif drinks were about £12 each even for the premium stuff.

So stupidly we went with the waiter's recommendation for the post dinner drinks assuming they'd be a similar price.

Very naive of me and I got a bloody shock when I got the bill.

And the drinks were nice enough but nothing to write home about - although I don't think I'd ever think £90 for two drinks worth it!

Tower Club at Lebua by any chance?! 🤣

Babdoc · 11/06/2023 18:51

23 Euros for one very small glass of orange juice and a tiny individual tub of ice cream, in Portofino. Gobsmacked.
There was a £20 million superyacht in the harbour - I expect the owner was the only person there who wasn’t shocked about the cafe prices!
