What’s with all the cartoon films being made into films?

Just seen they are doing a Hunchback of Notre Dame remake.

There are so many old films that are suddenly being redone and I wonder why.

I’ve even seen a How To Train Your Dragon remake

No new ideas? In fairness, I don't mind a How to Train Your Dragon remake as the films bore absolutely zero resemblance to the books.

Hollywood have run out of ideas.
Anything Disney/Dreamworks/Pixar can sell buckets of merchandise for ££££££££££.

The Disney ones have had to be remade to keep the copyright on them I think.

I've heard it is to protect the copyright of the films. When a movie gets old it becomes a free for all to reproduce it, so they make a new version.

I loved the films but I’ve never read the books.

I guess the copyright thing makes sense

Exactly this. Hence Little Mermaid remake etc.

I think a proper tv series of how to train your dragon that is actually based on the books in a meaningful way would be fantastic.

Sadly, the live action film remake will be shit. I know this because they cast someone as Astrid.

So not based in any way on the books then. And toothless won’t be tiny and hilariously badly behaved. Alas.

Lack of ideas and greed
