Fancy helping me choose a digital camera

I'd like to buy a digital camera for a relative's significant birthday. They currently use their iPhone for photos but have said they'd like a digital camera, preferably a lightweight one they can easily take out with them on walks.

I've a budget of about £350 but have no idea where to start, and I've got a bit overwhelmed looking at the different options.

Any advice on a good entry level digital camera? Thanks!

Nikon DSL. Brilliant cameras, I have a D50 but it's an 'old' camera now, given your budget I'd recommend a second hand DSL from a good secondhand shop with comes with a 12 month guarantee. It's really useful having a camera you can change lenses. I have four lenses for my camera. And it's taken some incredible wildlife photos, defo the camera not me!

I had a Nikon D5300 and was very pleased with it, you can tilt the screen which is very handy for holding up and taking photos above your head or low down so you don't need to bend.

If they're interested in getting into photography then I wouldn't recommend getting a bridge camera, go for a proper dslr, you can change the lenses on them which is a must if you want the best from various situations.
