I seem to have got myself a reputation as a drinker.

I do like a drink, real ale mostly and do occasionally go out for a "session", maybe three times a year.

Other than that, I never, ever drink during the week and only at weekends when I'm out, usually fairly moderately. I went to a birthday do last night and had 3 pints, was maybe a bit more chatty than I might otherwise be but certainly not staggering drunk or obnoxious.

I rarely post anything on SM myself, so what does find it's way on there is photos others have taken when we're out, usually with a beer in my hand.

I have many other interests and am busy doing something that doesn't involve drinking more weekends than not, they just don't get posted.

There are a couple of people who regularly make reference to me "always" being in the pub or the quantity of beer I drink.

Would this bother you? How do I change it?

Ask them to remove the photo or edit you out of it.

I'm the same..... I have a really active social life but I drink really moderately when I'm out.
I very rarely get drunk and drink loads of water when i'm out but people assume i'm always out getting pissed!

I just ignore it tbh 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'd veer between pointing out that you're not 'always' in the pub and how much you drink is your business and asking them if they don't have anything better to do than police other people's drinking habits.

Or a conflation of all three points. Depends how much you want to confront them but self-righteousness always pissed me off.

I find telling them I don't drink as much as they think I do gets a "lady doth protest too much" response.

These people clearly don't know you very well then do they? If their opinion is solely based on what is on SM. Remind them of that.

Cheetahmum · 10/06/2023 13:35

Update your SM settings so people can't tag you for a start.

Oh OK. Ignore them then. Or tell them to fuck off with their judgements.

Framboisery · 10/06/2023 13:48

Do you think they're just joking perhaps. When I say joking I mean one of those joke that doesn't actually sound funny ..

Most photos of me before having kids involved holding a glass as social occasions are when photos are taken.

Eudaimonia5 · 10/06/2023 13:54

I'd ignore them and carry on as you are, they're probably jealous or using you as gossip because they have nothing else to talk about.

If it bothers you, can you maybe post more photos of you doing things that don't involve alcohol? So that your social media pics aren't just of you drinking. It's easy to look like all you do is drink because when you're on a night out is generally when people take pictures.

Workawayxx · 10/06/2023 14:54

I’d just say “ha, my life isn’t that wild I’m afraid, you’re more likely to find me at **knitting club than down the pub on a Friday night!”. Or “ha ha, don’t believe everything you see on social media”. Shut it down with a jokey response.

** insert most sedate thing you’ve done recently here.

This exactly.
