Ear piercing - both at once on one at a time?

Getting DD her ears pierced for her 9th birthday. I will be going to the tattoo and piercing studio where DS1 had his done a few years ago - who are brilliant. He only had the one ear pierced so slept on the other side while it was healing, no problem. DD says she can't sleep on her back, so I'm wondering if we should do one ear, wait a few weeks for it to stop hurting so much, and then get the other one done so she can sleep on one side while each is just done.

Is this a good idea? Or should we just get both done and hope she manages?

I’d just get them both done and get it over with, personally

I’ve never heard of anyone doing this! It shouldn’t hurt for very long after getting the piercing, a bit of sensitivity but not enough to stop you sleeping.

Do both. Get a travel pillow for her to sleep on her side, her ear will rest in the hole.

I've never heard of anyone just getting one at a time!

What! Of course get both done at the same time, I can just imagine her class mates if she has just one ear pierced, children are mean without giving them something else to comment on. It won’t hurt for long and she should be able to still sleep on her side. What’s your daughters thoughts? Her opinion is the only one that matters in the situation.

Dd got hers done a couple months ago both at the same time Also for her 9th birthday. She never had any problems sleeping on them and never complained about them hurting at all either

Aside from the initial pinch of the needle they really shouldn't hurt past a couple of hours of discomfort from the immediate swelling, which will go down quickly.

My dd had hers done a little younger than 9 and never once said anything about them hurting when she was asleep, I've never in my life heard of anyone getting their lobes pierced one at a time! She'll be fine.

Barold · 10/06/2023 12:35

Normal earlobe piercings don’t hurt. Can’t imagine anyone doing one at a time.

She’ll definitely be able to sleep on her side.

BerriesPineCones · 10/06/2023 12:39

Dd hasn't mentioned it being a problem to sleep after getting hers pierced.

KevinDeBrioche · 10/06/2023 12:47

Earlobes won’t be a problem. It’s sleeping on cartilage piercings that you need to be wary of.

Genius - I will do this!

Dd didn't have an opinion when we discussed it, she thought there were advantages to both ways
