Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just brewing a pot of tea, and about to eat breakfast, in my favourite spot in the kitchen. When I've eaten I'm going to head out and sit at my new garden table for a while, but it needs wiping first thanks to sap from the sycamore, & I need to eat first.

I'm planning a fairly quiet day after chemo yesterday. I'll wash up last night's tea pots and do the couple of wash loads there are & clear out a drawer.

Other than that it'll be a day of gentle crafting and reading for me, maybe a bit of pottering but probably not much else.

Dd1's got an appointment to try prom dresses this week, so is hopefully more successful than last week. She has her eye on a lilac one that was in the shop window a few weeks ago but I suspect that's out of the budget I've given her by a couple of hundred pounds.

Dd2's staying here with me - she said she cba to do anything while dd1 and their dad are out so we'll see what she wants to do when she gets out of bed 🤷‍♀️

We're having pork loin steaks and salad for tea, with salad. I'm not sure what sort of potato or other side yet - I'll see what everyone wants when they're up.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning Lucysmam. I hope your dd1 has a successful dress shop. I'm doing little as I have an incredibly sore throat and an eye infection. The furthest I'll be is food shopping. If I feel like it, I'll change the bedding and get it outside. Then do some housework. Dinner will be something easy.

Decafflatteplease · 10/06/2023 08:55

Morning @lucysmam hope you are feeling ok after chemo. I presume you are off work now? Hope they are supportive!

It's meant to be 30 degrees here today! We don't like the heat so will be trying to keep the house cool. Luckily our house was built in 1800s so is freezing in winter but cool in the summer. All windows are open but once it warms up outside I'll shut them. Also got a fly screen thing to install today so can have back door open but no flies coming in.

I'm in my usual spot, on the couch with blanket, tea and youngest playing next to me.

This morning DH and one DC are nipping to town to take a few things back we bought but don't need so get a refund. I'll stay here with all the other DC! Want to get uniform washed as per usual on a weekend, DC will hopefully go in the sandpit it's under a big tree in our garden so lovely and shady.

After lunch we are going swimming (we have an annual pass) then home for pulled pork tacos , I need to get that in the slow cooker in a minute) and coleslaw and corn on the cob. Easy tea.

Wine and TV with DH once DC asleep, usual Saturday night routine 🙂

lucysmam · 10/06/2023 09:00

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand I hope you're feeling better soon, being any sort of poorly is the pits 💐

@Decafflatteplease surprisingly no side effects that I've noticed/felt which is good! Yes, I'm off work, have been since after the Easter hols. They're being really supportive, thankfully & lots of colleagues regularly check in on me 😊

Pulled pork tacos sound tasty - might have to add that to my list of things to try...dd2 has taken to calling my stomach Marvin atm, because I'm hungry all the bloody time 🙄

Morning. I'm just having a cuppa. I've put the washing out already. DH is away with some friends until Monday. Ds's and I are off to the zoo with a friend and her kids. It's going to be a scorcher. Not sure what's for dinner yet. Will probably get something out.

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 10/06/2023 09:03

I've been for a lovely early 2.6 mile walk. First time ever having realised the kids are now old enough to be left downstairs alone for a bit (there dad was, and still is, in bed)

Bit revolutionary this fact. Maybe I can finally start putting me first sometimes and having time to exercise occasionally at an adult pace.

lucysmam · 10/06/2023 09:08

@Mommasgotabrandnewbag I cherish this couple of hours on a weekend morning when no-one is up. Or, if they are, they lay upstairs for a while.

Window open, sit in my spot, and just relax/listen to what's going on outside. Maybe read, maybe craft, some mornings I potter in the kitchen...whatever I fancy, just for the couple of hours, is bliss 😊

It’s my birthday tomorrow.

I am drinking tea, I picked up DS from town last night at midnight as a favour. He has offered a favour in returned so I have decided he is washing the kitchen kickboards and floor. I am going to nip out for a walk with DH in about 30 mins before it gets too hot. Off out in to town tonight to a nice little French bistro and then maybe a cocktail or two though not a massive night. Having a BBQ tomorrow in the day and then possibly off to a salsa night. I took a lot of dancing lessons when young and did two years of salsa.

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 10/06/2023 09:15

Morning, @lucysmam . Glad you’re taking things easy(ish) today.

We’re all lolling around, eating toast, and DD is playing a game on her tablet. Shopping is due at any minute.

When DD’s carers get here, DP and I will head out. We may go for a nose around our local auction house - I’ve seen a nice coffee table (we don’t need a coffee table) in the online listing and DP’s spotted some books he fancies… We’ll grab lunch at some point, too.

We’ll probably fill the paddling pool when we get home, so DD can splash around while we chill. Life is SO much easier when the sun is shining!

Beautifulsunflowers · 10/06/2023 09:15

Came on Mumsnet looking for a what are you up to today thread!! Thanks @lucysmam for starting it and I hope you continue to feel with the chemo.
I had a mad busy weekend last weekend so this one is going to be more chilled. Just had breakfast and the first load is in the washing machine. I’ve got a hair appointment at 10.15 - not sure how much to have off!!! I’ll decide when I get there…..
Parents popping over for a cuppa this afternoon.
Im planning on finishing my book, pottering around the garden, nagging ds2 to do his gsce revision and checking in with ds1 who is on a trip with his mates!
Ds1’s favourite dinner tonight - fahitas!

Peridot1 · 10/06/2023 09:19

Good morning @lucysmam or should we call you Starvin Marvin? Glad you aren’t having bad reactions to the chemo.

I am having my usual slow morning with lots of cups of tea.

We are recovering from hosting a bbq for almost 60 people on Thursday and are shattered! Still some clearing up to do outside. Thankfully it was catered so we didn’t have to do the food but getting the garden ready and setting everything up etc was a lot of work. DH and a few other guys from the village bid for the bbq at a charity event last year and we hosted. So it was split between five couples.

DH will power wash the patio as it’s a bit grubby in places after all the shenanigans and then we will move the furniture back and I’m planning a very lazy weekend of reading my book in the shade.

I need to catch up on some washing and tidying in the house but nothing much else planned.

I think dinner is Dan Dan noodles which DH did a few weeks ago and was delicious.

Simonjt · 10/06/2023 09:27

Good morning everyone

Our oldest is having his birthday party today, it’s outdoors, thanks to amazon we’ve managed to get two of those water slide things you run onto and slide down on your belly, we have some big gazebo things to put up as well to make plenty shade. I’m going to start sorting all of the food in a minute, just a standard buffet and cakes, luckily we have a camper van, so I’ve loaded up the freezer in there with ice lollies for everyone to have.

This evening, well most of the weekend, I’ll be studying as I have an exam next week.

legospringqueen · 10/06/2023 09:35

Good morning @lucysmam good to see the chemo is going ok. Sounds like the new garden furniture is a hit too 😀

I had a huge wave of nostalgia thinking about your DD's prom dress. DS had his prom last year & seeing all the DCs in their suits & stunning dresses was wonderful! The teachers were all very emotional as it was the first prom the school had held since 2019 because of covid. It is worth looking on eBay & Vinted plus local Facebook selling sites as people often only wear the dress once.

It's already roasting here, second load of washing is on & DDog has had an early walk on the moors.

I'm meeting a friend for lunch today which will be nice. DS will have a lie in - just through a week of exams, went out with mates last night & is working his restaurant job from 5pm. DH is still asleep too!

We've a few household jobs to do today but I've booked an outside table at one of the few pubs in our town that has outside space for early evening & we will go for a drink or too. I'm making coronation chicken which we'll have with salad & garlic bread this evening. Happy days...

Have a relaxing weekend everyone!

frustratednomad · 10/06/2023 09:39

Good morning @lucysmam, hope you have a nice relaxing day. I'm sitting on the sofa waiting for DH to finish cleaning the car. After weeks of very cold weather it's finally going to be hot today, just my luck as we will miss it as we are flying to Corfu this afternoon, hopefully it will be just as hot there!

Have a good day everyone.

Softoprider · 10/06/2023 09:41

I'm booking and paying for train and accomodation in London for a short break with my grandson in the school summer hols and then I'm making Florentines !

lucysmam · 10/06/2023 09:41

@Peridot1 Starvin Marvin is more apt, at the moment! 2am I was awake debating eating the emergency chocolate wafer off my bedside table 😋 I resisted until I got up...I'm very conscious that I don't want to spend on a whole new wardrobe 🙈

@legospringqueen it's lovely being able to sit out under the shade! Just annoying that the big sycamore drops so much sticky sap (I presume it's sap!) on it...it may be moving further towards the kitchen & the washing further the other way today 🤔

@Simonjt I hope your party goes well! My girls were never fussed with the paddling pools 🙄 We still have one but they never want it out.

Morning @lucysmam hope you ate OK post chemo.

DH is away for the weekend, so I'm chilling with a coffee. DS is still in bed.
I'm getting my hair cut later, and DS is going to the beach with friends.

Tonight we are going to see Sam Fender and meeting a few friends in town before that.

User124534687 · 10/06/2023 10:02

Hi all, you all sound very chilled and organised.

I have just woken up and am feeling a bit daunted at the day ahead. I’ve got loads of housework to do after being away on holiday and needing to get everything reset back to normal. Don’t know what to do with the DCs today and if I don’t think of something they will just be on screens all day. No idea what to do for lunch or tea.

I love the idea of just reading or something but there’s never time to do much other than power everyone to do something and get some stuff done myself.

I shall take some inspiration from you lot though and try to find a little bubble of time to sit in peace.

gingercat02 · 10/06/2023 10:03

LOL I meant are well but ate well might be more appropriate!

ForYouManImADoomBoy · 10/06/2023 10:04

ive got my nephew and nieces coming round today for lunch so i need to decide what im feeding them and also to discuss with my older niece what make up she wants me to do for her prom at the end of the month! im fab at doing make up on other people but rubbish at doing it on myself, how does that happen eh?!

EmpressSoleil · 10/06/2023 10:22

Morning everyone.
As it’s meant to be 29 here today and won’t cool down later (live in London and it just gets hotter and hotter) all my blinds, curtains etc are shut and staying shut! I’m not allowing one tiny bit of sun in 😂it’s a bit of an experiment actually to see if it makes a significant difference in keeping the house cooler. I’m going to open the loft hatch too as people say that helps.
Can’t stand feeling sticky.

Other than that, just going to potter and do a couple of my craft projects. Nothing strenuous.

Chelsea26 · 10/06/2023 10:27

Good morning @lucysmam and all.

I’ve been up early and walked the dog as will be too hot later. The I dropped DS1 to football training and his 4 mates that stayed last night home.

Just eating breakfast with DS2 before taking him to kick boxing, picking DS1 up from football training and taking him to kickboxing.

All back home and activities done by 13:30 and then I have to get ready and finish packing because after I drop the boys to their dad I am off to beautiful Paris to meet DP who is finishing his London to Paris cycling event today!

I have had loads of excellent recommendations from people on here so we have a plan to wander, eat lovely food, look at stuff, eat more lovely food and drink fine wine!

Can’t wait!

Have lovely weekends everyone!

InglouriousBasterd · 10/06/2023 10:35

Morning @lucysmam , I’m so glad you’re doing well and have a raging appetite!!

Currently procrastinating over putting the grocery delivery away over coffee. DD is off shopping with her friend and sleeping over there tonight. I’m off to the nice air conditioned cinema this afternoon and then home to watch the Champions League final with dinner!

Hope everyone has a lovely day and it isn’t too baking where you are - it’s already super warm here!

lucysmam · 10/06/2023 10:49

@InglouriousBasterd coffee wins! If you can drink it in the sunshine, even better 🌞

I've been productive this morning & am really pleased with myself! I've done a load of washing and got another on the go, washed up & emptied the fryer to go away instead of it sitting staring at me for aaaaages, dismantled the cooker top & sprayed it, and checked the contents of my fridge so I know what wants using up first (been a bit disorganised since being unwell for so long 😢).

I'm going to make a coffee in a minute, then get dressed and make a start on painting some bits for work, before my dad calls with some compost at dinner time-ish. Oh, and I'll finish off the cooker top!

Good morning mumsnet 😊

I'm in bed with my 3rd coffee. The dc are on their various screens. We've all had a brutal week with work/school/after school clubs so today is a do nothing day. I've just had a text to say my new gazebo is being delivered later so I may have a go at putting that up (in the rain) in preparation for the good weather next week. If I'm feeling really energetic I may even bake something.
