Morning looking for some direction for advice for my 13 yr old DD
She's been having headaches and joint pain for the last 18 months or so and we had a gp appointment yesterday to discuss.
Lovely doctor who took his time and chatted to DD about school, life etc and then asked to fill out a questionnaire- as a result she's now being referred to Cahms for adhd assessment.
To be honest this isn't a shock - I've had my suspicions for a while but it has been very subtle - we joke at home that's she's "young Sheldon"
Had a long chat with DD last night and honestly she is relieved that there may be a reason for how she is - I've got the mum guilt as I hadn't realised how much it was affecting her.
Anyway can anyone point us in the direction of any good books or website aimed at young teenagers so we can do some more research? Or any tips how to make life easier for her?
She's a smart cookie but quite fixed in her opinions and will argue her point to the cows come home. Very considerate child but doesn't suffer fools and quite often makes her feelings clear. Has a small close friendship group and is doing well in school however she's starting to get in trouble in school for low level behaviour issues such as talking back to the teacher and being disruptive. Up to now she has always been a model pupil but has been given a detention in the last month which was a shock to both us and her teachers. (I spoke to her teacher and they said she had left them with no choice but detention as she wouldn't back down or apologise)
I guess I need to speak to school to make them aware but I also know it's going to be at least 2 years before we get to the top of the Cahms list (if we are lucky!)
Private assessment isn't an option for us unfortunately so I guess I'm looking for things to put in place to help dd.
