Bloody Pheasants !

MayBeee · 10/06/2023 06:38

We live quite rural ( edge of village ) and have regular visits to the garden from the above.
One bastard male pheasant has taken it upon himself to call out every morning ( they shreak out and shake their feathers ) from 5 am every flipping morning.
Wakes the whole house.

Wait until August and then shoot it?

LulooLemon · 10/06/2023 06:51

😲🤣

October! Illegal until then!

Wait until August and then shoot it?

But waiting until august to shoot it would be illegal, as the pheasant season opens on October 1st.
OP, it’s simply affirming its territory, we have them all around us here. I wouldn’t worry too much, your obviously nearby a local shoot and next seasons birds will be released in the coming month or two which will probably encourage your local cock bird to divert his attentions elsewhere.

CamelCaseLetter · 10/06/2023 06:55

Aww, I love pheasants! Even though they are the most stupid bird and love to run out in front of cars or fly into windscreens.

Florin · 10/06/2023 06:56

Either don’t live in the country or shoot it when the season starts.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 10/06/2023 06:58

I got woken by what I thought was someone trying to break in. Nope , two magpies on my conservatory roof tapping for insects 🙄 made a hell of a racket !

MayBeee · 10/06/2023 07:30

@Florin You don't sound like you've woken up very happy this morning.

The post was semi light hearted , and inspite of my early wake up calls and inconvenience nothing would get shot around here .

I’ll drop you the pheasant for the four corn takes round my house😂

birdglasspen · 10/06/2023 07:36

Oh dear. I’ll swop you the pheasant for the four corncrakes around my house!😂

Florin · 10/06/2023 07:38

Very happy here thanks, I just see pheasants part of day to day life, happy to hear them but equally happy to shoot them too.

PathOfLeastResitance · 10/06/2023 07:47

The pheasants alongside the thug squirrels shouting at each other, the pigeons with that woefully pathetic noise they make, the owls and their hoo-hooing, the foxes have a late night opera and then the deer joining in. Natures wonderful cacophony can certainly be a fecking awful noise sometimes.

Ifailed · 10/06/2023 07:50

I'll swap your pheasant for the fucking noisy seagulls I have to put up with. It's not like I live near the sea, either.

cuckyplunt · 10/06/2023 07:54

When does the binmen season open?

CherryogDog · 10/06/2023 08:27

It's peacock central here. Noisy, peck at their reflection on cars, congregate round the chippy intimidating customers.
I was trying to leave my house one morning, and there was a giant of a bird walking past my front door. Very very slowly. Followed by his lady friend. Also walking very very slowly...

When does the binmen season open?

Can we shoot binmen?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 10/06/2023 11:17

Earplugs , OP. I haven’t heard the Dawn cacophony , sorry chorus, for years.

BreviloquentBastard · 10/06/2023 11:18

We had a fucking peacock in the garden this morning, no idea where he came from. Pheasants I can just about cope with, but their flamboyant cousins screaming at 6am is a hard no. He's lucky he's not tonight's dinner.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/06/2023 12:19

We have a pheasant that has been coming to our garden since 2020 (we first noticed him during lockdown). He is called Pete and I love him like he was an actual pet! I like hearing him in the morning and often respond saying 'good morning Pete' to him. Close up he is spectacularly beautiful.

crabbyoldappletree · 10/06/2023 13:34

I think the advice from a certain Mr. Dahl, is to crush up sleeping tables, lace raisins with said medication, wait for pheasant to eat, roost then fall comatosed off its perch and scoop it up for pheasant pie?!

fiftyval · 10/06/2023 14:04

OP - you need a Springer Spaniel!

birdglasspen · 10/06/2023 07:36

Oh dear. I’ll swop you the pheasant for the four corncrakes around my house!😂

Bloody hell! I can barely imagine the sheer horror of that level of corn crakiness.

One of the bastards is more than enough!

stbrandonsboat · 10/06/2023 15:42

We did have a magpie pecking at our bedroom window the other morning. It was 05:50. I opened the curtain and the car jumped up, they gave each other a shock and then both fell off the window sills 😂
