I don't know if I'm renewing or applying for a brand new one !

Renewal but with change of name. Need to supply proof of name change

drstranger · 09/06/2023 21:26

So just my marriage certificate ?

Yes you should just need your marriage certificate

drstranger · 09/06/2023 21:32

So it's the 'get a new passport after the ceremony' one ? It doesn't say renewing that's what's confusing me

Yes
You pick renewal as you're still the same person but with a different surname

drstranger · 09/06/2023 21:52

Will the renewal option come up once I start the application process then ?

Or you could wait until your current passport expires and change your name on the next one.

drstranger · 09/06/2023 21:59

@BonnieGlasses it only has a few months left and I want to do mine the same time as the kids

So it’s a new passport then , a renewal would just give you a passport is your new name with a couple of months on it which is pointless

No it wouldn't. It would give a new passport with 10 years validity if she does a renewal.

mrsbyers · 09/06/2023 22:24

Ignore part of that , it’s a new one you need a renewal would give you a new 10 year passport but only with existing details on

dementedpixie · 09/06/2023 22:27

She does a renewal with a change of name and will get a passport in her new name with 10 years validity.

It's only a new passport if you've never had a passport before

Itsanotherhreatday · 09/06/2023 22:29

I agree it’s a renewal they tie up your previous documents and don’t need to investigate your details - they know who your are already and have got married same as 1000’s on women everywhere

drstranger · 09/06/2023 22:35

Thank you, I'm still confused though lol so where will I actually find the option for a renewal ?
Because it only states to apply for a passport, do I start the process and then it will give me the option of what I'm doing ie renewing or applying for a first passport etc ?

Start the process online and it'll direct you to choose an option

Hopefully this screenshot from my old local council (where I lived when I married and changed my name in my passport) will make it clearer. Simply go onto the passport application website and click the button to renew passport; fill in using the name you now wish to be known by and add your marriage certificate as supplementary evidence
