First time poster, long time lurker. My DD19 is off to camp America on Monday and just wondering if any other Mum’s that have been through it could reassure me it will all be okay. I’m sure she’ll be absolutely fine and will thoroughly enjoy herself, it’ll be me that’s the nervous wreck

I assume she is working as a camp counsellor , not being packed off for her summer hols.

She will be fine, hope it is paying enough to cover the airfare.

Loopy3585 · 09/06/2023 20:44

Sorry, yes working as a specialist activity counsellor.

I did this about 20 years ago. You are well looked after. It was the best time of my life!

Mushroo · 09/06/2023 21:08

My sister did it last year and loved it that much she’s gone back this year!

Shes quite shy and it was honestly the making of her.

FireflyJar · 19/07/2023 00:13

How's she getting on @Loopy3585 I'm so jealous as I would have loved to do this

pastypirate · 19/07/2023 00:49

I went as a counsellor 3 times and worked for one of the agencies here and abroad for about 5 years. It was amazing and I've started encouribg dd2 who is 10 that she needs to do it at 18.

I was very safe out there and as you get your bed and board there's not much to worry about.

AngeloMysterioso · 19/07/2023 02:43

I did it three times- she’ll have the time of her life and be well looked after

Wilburisagirl · 19/07/2023 17:21

I worked as a camp counsellor 20 years ago and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I wish I had done it a second time.

I know this is an old post but how did your daughter get on? My daughter will be 18 in May and has signed up to go in June and I'm so anxious about it 😭

Resurrecting this thread as my DS is off next week! Any tips??

Lemonade2011 · 06/06/2024 17:09

My friends son went off the other day somewhere near Boston I think, she was all upset but he’ll have the time of his life I bet

macandcheeseforthewine · 06/06/2024 17:23

My son is 26, and has just gone back for his 4th camp! He did two prior to Covid, then went back last year for what was supposed to be the last one, but he got promoted (from lifeguard to waterfront director!) so off he's gone again!

He has made lifelong friends from camp - a load of them live in Australia, and a whole gang including my DS went out there in March for 10 days to celebrate a couple of their birthdays.

He absolutely loves it, and would work it all year round if he could.

Loopy3585 · 06/06/2024 17:35

Sorry that I’ve not come back before! My son absolutely loved it and had hoped to go back this year but unfortunately circumstances haven’t allowed! But he’ll be jealous of all those going
