Is this illegal?

Is it illegal to post things about someone on the internet which are completely true but makes that other person look bad? Or complaining to someone's workplace by sending screenshots of awful messages that they sent you? Or complaining to someone's workplace about when they were rude to you outside of work but wearing their work uniform?

Is any of this illegal?

Not illegal I wouldn't think but it sounds a bit unhinged!

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/06/2023 17:44

I think the thing about wearing the work uniform means that you're representing the company, and if you are rude to someone in public then they have every right to complain to the company.

eurochick · 09/06/2023 18:07

I can't see any illegality there.

WheelsUp · 09/06/2023 18:08

No

eurochick · 09/06/2023 18:08

It's not my area but if the person is doing all these things and more it could perhaps become harassment.

thinkfast · 09/06/2023 18:09

I think the publishing private messages might be problematic, difficult to comment without more context really.

DahliaMacNamara · 09/06/2023 18:12

Your first point would have AIBU closed down for a start.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 09/06/2023 18:13

My employers would think anyone sending them random screenshots of personal conversations between their employee and someone else was unhinged and would offer the employee support to make a harassment claim.

Unless of course the messages were sent by the employee to a customer/service user or to another colleague.

Ditto the being rude in work uniform thing.

wildfirewonder · 09/06/2023 18:17

Is it illegal to post things about someone on the internet which are completely true but makes that other person look bad? Depends, 'truth' is not always straightforward.

Or complaining to someone's workplace by sending screenshots of awful messages that they sent you? Could be harassment depending on circs

Or complaining to someone's workplace about when they were rude to you outside of work but wearing their work uniform? Again could be harassment.

Is any of this illegal? All of it together sounds like harassment. Get advice if this is happening to you.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/06/2023 18:18

Are you the poster with the batshit ex of her boyfriend stalking you?

MichelleScarn · 09/06/2023 18:23

Or complaining to someone's workplace about when they were rude to you outside of work but wearing their work uniform? Again could be harassment.
And again what's context, person in uniform approached and harassed and are rude to get away, or they approach other person and harass?

MichelleScarn · 09/06/2023 18:24

Meant to say fully agree with @wildfirewonder!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 09/06/2023 18:49

I think those things would probably build together in to a picture of someone being harassed/stalked. So while each individual action is not illegal by themselves, doing all of them over a period of time may constitute an illegal act.

LakeTiticaca · 09/06/2023 18:57

Can you give us a bit more context OP?

Loverofoxbowlakes · 09/06/2023 18:58

This would be grounds for disciplinary at just about every place I've worked - bringing the company into disrepute as you're not giving the best impression of the company.

The messages (assuming they're private) are just a bit batshit, as long as you explained why you sent them shouldn't be a problem (assuming there is some history of batshittery - my ex forwarded the reasons he was divorcing me to my boss but the boss just mentioned it in passing as he knew what a cunt the ex was being).

2bazookas · 09/06/2023 19:04

Repeated actions of that kind may qualify as harassment, which is a crime.

pimplebum · 09/06/2023 19:08

Depends
Is this a personal vendetta against an ex = you will look totally unhinged and be ridiculed

If , say a milkman has been rude to you or a sky engineer was racist , sexist in a bar with his uniform on then make a complaint via the head office HR
if it was racism sexist ie homophobic then it's a police matter

Rainbowsandfairies · 09/06/2023 19:13

Yeah definitely sounds like the person is harassing and being a stalker. Indeed you can be prosecuted for this. Hope you are OK 👍

Coconutsandpalmtrees · 09/06/2023 19:23

Well basically I was bullied (both verbally and physically) by a certain group of people and I want to take revenge on them by doing some of these things.

OP posts:
Coconutsandpalmtrees · 09/06/2023 19:25

The messages they sent included name calling and threats of violence. One of them shouted abuse at me in their work uniform.

Or just be an adult and realise that they deserve none of your time or energy, move on.

Yes if they bullied you then they are not nice people and deserve karma, but why do you want to make yourself as bad as them?

ejbaxa · 09/06/2023 19:33

I’m sorry that you were bullied op, but the best strategy is to keep the hell away from the nasty people.

Pinkflipflop85 · 09/06/2023 19:48

What do you think that will actually achieve? Other than antagonising them...

Stompythedinosaur · 09/06/2023 19:55

Not illegal, but it's probably not a great idea.

I suspect it will not have any impact for the people you are angry with, and will make you look a bit unstable.

Perfect way to escalate things - don't you think they are going to respond in kind? Or up the ante?

Don't be silly.
