Mother’s Day at child’s school changed to just special persons day but Father’s Day is called Father’s Day and special persons day!

Not sure if being over the top but why include Father’s Day in the Father’s Day poster but not Mother’s Day for that day!

I get the reason to say special person is for sensitivity but its ok to use Father’s Day but not Mother’s Day!

Why don’t you ask the school rather than expect anyone here to know? Maybe a child recently lost their mother and they were being sensitive.

My daughter doesn’t have a father. I don’t think that’s the reason. Just think it needs to be the same for both days.

It isn't Mother's Day, it is Mothering Sunday. The day that people were traditionally given off work so they could visit their mother church in their home parish, where they were baptised.

It might be as simple as different people sending out the mailings, or they forgot what they said last time. You could suggest it should be the same. But it's tricky for schools. Mother's Day and in recent times, Father's Day, are huge cultural traditions in the UK, but very hard on kids without a mum or a dad. I'd think calling them both the same (Mother's Day and Special Person's Day) is probably about as good as it gets.

Maybe they had people complaining last time that the 'Mother's' bit had been dropped so they thought they should reinstate it going forward.

At least schools are being more inclusive, I remember my dc being sad that most others had grandparents who could come into school but theirs were dead/too ill and the school refused to have anyone who wasn't a grandparent so my dc had to sit with other children's grandparents.

It quite clearly is now Mother's Day. Many of us know how it started, that doesn't mean Mother's Day hasn't been a UK tradition for as long as all of us on here have been alive.

Just more woke nonsense. I'm a Foster Carer but my DS still makes/buys me a Mother's Day card.

Yes, however it is still known as Mothering Sunday at the church I go to. The point I was making is that it has had the word 'mother' in its name for centuries, so changing the name of it to 'special persons day' is just daft. Fathers day is a relatively new introduction, so if people want a 'special persons day' then they could add another day to the calendar instead of changing the name of Mothers day.
