Continuation of previous threads (thread 7).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with spring flowers. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Where do you live, Sinner? It sounds amazing.

Hi Lucicle, I'm in Whitley Bay and the lighthouse is on St. Mary's Island. Apart from the beach, we have a lot of green spaces for an urban area.

I started learning BSL earlier this year and then stopped. I really should start again. I think it would be great if it was something we all got a chance to learn at school.

My daughter was doing a bit in First School, but they don't do it in Middle School, which is a shame.

MavisMcMinty · 17/07/2023 09:59

“Skinny Malink” - is that your Irishness, Mouse? My Mum used to recite it to us but nobody English had ever heard of it when I was young.

Skinny Malinky Long-Legs
Big banana feet
Went to the pictures
But couldn’t find a seat
When he found a seat
He fell fast asleep
Skinny Malinky Long-legs
Big banana feet.

lucicle · 17/07/2023 11:23

It sounds so lovely, Sinner. I would love to live near the sea.

Skinny Malinky Long-Legs was a very widely known rhyme when I was at primary school in the 1970s in London. Except, we had a slightly ruder version!

Skinny Malinky Long-Legs
Big banana feet
Went to the pictures
But couldn’t find a seat.
When the pictures started
Skinny Malinky farted.
Skinny Malinky Long-legs
Big banana feet.

MavisMcMinty · 17/07/2023 11:30

Ha ha! Even better, luc! My Dad’s from Wales/Coventry and hadn’t heard it before he met my Irish Mum.

MouseMinge · 17/07/2023 12:01

I've never heard the pome! It does come from Irish relatives though but just used to describe someone slender/skinny/thin. I love the feel of it in my mouth when I say it so it's nice having a skinny Malink around so I can use it lots.

Britinme · 17/07/2023 14:29

I have heard of skinny malinky as a term for a skinny person but never heard the rhyme in my Yorkshire upbringing. I would have remembered if I'd heard it as I have a memory that latches on to things that rhyme.

SinnerBoy · 17/07/2023 14:35

My mother used to say slinky malinky. Malinky means little, in Russian and some of the other Slavic languages.

artant · 17/07/2023 15:51

I know the term skinny malinky but font remember hearing the rhyme.

kittykarate · 17/07/2023 16:03

Blargh 5 days of antibiotics for me due to an infected cat bite. MrKitty is helpfully suggesting I need a cone of shame to stop me fiddling with it.

DeanElderberry · 17/07/2023 16:15

I heard at least the first part of the rhyme, probably from my father (a Dubliner).

DeanElderberry · 17/07/2023 16:19

Also have always heard skinnymalink or skinnamalink as a (fairly affectionate) term for someone - skinny. Come to think of it, the same father was a - skinnymalink.

duc748 · 17/07/2023 16:31

I'd never heard of Skinny Malinky or the verse. But 'skinnamalink', yes, that rings a bell, my Mum used to say it.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 17/07/2023 18:25

I've never heard the rhyme but do know 'slinky malinky' as a term.

Back home after our tour of the 5 nations. The last but one hotel we stayed in was exceptionally dog friendly - they even got their own menu.

Ooh, that place looks lovely, Bint. Is the food (human) as good as it looks?

duc748 · 17/07/2023 19:33

Scanning through the website now, it does indeed look lovely. And not quite as expensive as I expected.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 17/07/2023 20:14

The human food is excellent and they're really good at dealing with tricky dietary requirements. Service can be a little slow because the staff are very friendly and chatty (and because it's quite small so every now and the a waiter will have to dash off to check someone in at reception or the chef has to go and reboot the car charger) but I'd definitely recommend it. Just outside the village, on a hill, with views of the surrounding sheep. Rooms not large, but comfortable.

MouseMinge · 17/07/2023 20:34

I have my talk tomorrow and I'm still getting all my notes sorted. Eek!

In more bizarre and how on earth did that happen, news. I have a date tomorrow! I haven't been on a date for years mostly because I've not been looking for a date because it's all so much hassle and dating sites do my nut in. Too many "Hey" and "Hi" messages with a variety of dick pics after I've bothered to put a lot of effort into my bio. Nope. Nope, and a big fat NOPE to that.

Anyway, bumped into someone whose afro I'd admired from across the road by doing bizarre sign language for afro and a thumbs up. We chatted. He seemed nice. Asked if I'd fancy going out for a drink, I said yes, and gave him my number, we're meeting briefly tomorrow afternoon before I head off to Shoreham to talk at people. He's quite handsome. I expect nothing at all except some nice chat and some laughter or a total disaster and laughter afterwards as I describe the disaster.

Universally Challenged with Amal Rajan (sp?). This is going to be odd for a while!

MavisMcMinty · 17/07/2023 21:03

How lovely, Mouse! Good luck with the talk. x

duc748 · 17/07/2023 21:29

Thanks for the UC reminder, back this week, I forgot.

Britinme · 17/07/2023 21:41

Good luck tomorrow for both talk and date @MouseMinge :-)

MouseMinge · 18/07/2023 00:37

I've finally got the transcript and images off to the chap who runs the show. Phew!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 18/07/2023 07:34

Hope it goes well, Mouse.

The setting change was a bit odd for me. I liked Amol's lack of supercilious Paxonian sneering.
