Not sure about anyone else but each night I am waking up feeling sweaty. It does not feel like actual sweat like if you exercise but its more this feeling on my skin as if I have just dried off having been in the sea - like salt or something covering my body. I perhaps have the wrong duvet cover on my bed so wondering what would be a cooler alternative as I cannot sleep outside of the covers. Im not over heated really so no need for a fan but just this horrible sticky skin feeling. Anyone any ideas what could stop it? I only sleep in knickers.

What tog is your duvet?
You can get 1 tog ones

Neverinamonthofsundays · 08/06/2023 09:45

Not a clue to be honest. I only changed it a few months ago and it was to have this 'cooling' sensation in it but that was obviously a swizz.

If it has a label it will maybe say on there what tog it is

What fabric are your duvet cover/sheets/pillow case made from? It won’t entirely solve the problem but 100% cotton is far better for temperature regulation than any polycottons.

We have bamboo sheets they are fantastic

Passerillage · 08/06/2023 10:04

My skin feels like that with polycotton. Cotton, linen or cotton/linen blend is much nicer on the skin.

I was waking up hot same as you (and struggled to get back to sleep) and had to make a few changes - they’ve improved for me so hopefully will help.
changed Duvet from 10.5 to 4
cotton sheets
sleep with windows open
I used to use a hot water bottle going to sleep but stopped that
had to get rid of Emma mattress as really didn’t suit me (luckily was within date)

separately no tea or coffee after 3pm and I take magnesium supplements before bed

the above is helping - sounds like a lot of faff but not having sleep makes me willing to do anything!!!

Bamboo!!!!!

The M&S bamboo cotton blend are a great starter set that wont break the bank. They are fabulous and amazing after two or so washes.

We have now purchased sets for everyone in our extended family as they have fallen in love after staying.

As for the actual duvet. You can't beat 4.5 tog silk stuffed.

They are a magical mix of cool, breathable but also enough weight that it doesn't feel like just a sheet.

Wool duvet. I made the mistake of switching to feather and down, wool was always just right.
Also sheets that are either cotton or linen. No polycotton.

Thank you all. I guess I am replacing my bedding today. I am awake again at this stupid hour with the prickly heat/salty sensation again.

Also if you got one already get a cooling towel, before hrt I used to sleep with one round my neck or tucked under my boobs.

Agree about the wool duvet. I got mine from Devon duvets- lovely helpful lady on the phone if you need advice.

Also cotton sheets, definitely, and open window.

Finally, I know you said you didn't need one but a good quality quiet fan on a low setting helps hugely. Mine is a Tornado, and is fabulous.
