"pair with"

I don't know why, but the phrase "pair with" (e.g I'm looking for a white top to pair with these jeans", "I would pair that with a biker jacket") really just gives me the 😷.

Realise it's a first world problem but when people I know write it or say it I do a tiny little involuntary shudder.

Tiny shudder turns into a huge shudder if fashion is paired with a singular other half - "I would pair the jeans with a red lip" 😷😷😷😷😷

Anyone else like this or am I weird?

You're right, a pair is 2 amd you don't just wear a jacket and lipstick, or jeans and a top. you wear shoes and whatever else as well. You are not being a chat (I thought I was on aibu!)
