Meet new people

Hi, does anyone have tips on how to meet new people? I'm in my 40s and my DC is a teenager. I used to spend time with other mums but that doesn't really happen now that my DC is doing their own thing. I'm not sporty so not interested in anything fitness-related.

It depends what your hobbies are and where you live for options. I am into singing so have usually joined choirs anytime I moved somewhere new. Choirs can be great fun if you find one with music you like, although I will say that even the most 'laid-back' ones have their politics! Also, voluntary work. So many organisations from the charities to your local dance school may need volunteers. Evening classes are another way - new language, an art class etc. Research what community clubs are out there. Yoga classes could also connect you to new people, if that's not too much "fitness". Often with all of these classes or societies there are opportunities to get involved in workshops and other events which increases your chances of "bonding" with people.

I joined Rock Choir. No music reading, no audition, there are choirs all over the country and there is zero musical ability required, just an enjoyment of singing. It's hugely social. I've made life long friends there.

I came here to say rock choir too! I have no talent, just enthusiasm but it still sounds good when there's 100 of you singing together.

I also volunteer in a foodbank every other week and have met the loveliest of people.

Ooh a choir is a good idea. And maybe some volunteering. Thank you
