Teenager Birthday - which trainers are fashionable

SoccerMum1 · 06/06/2023 14:58

Hey all,

Its DS14's birthday in a couple of weeks, and he's asked for some new trainers, either Jordans, Dunks or Air Forces and some new socks to go along with them.

What trainers seem to be fashionable for teenagers atm, seen these online https://www.nike.com/gb/t/air-jordan-1-mid-shoes-83Lm6R/554724-174 however not sure if theres any which will be more 'in trend'

Also socks - assuming I can't just get some normal plain black ones from Primark? What length / style and colour is 'fashionable' to go along with his new trainers

Thanks all,
SoccerMum1

Whichever ones you get will be wrong!
I’d just get them to actually pick which ones they want.

CrumbliestCrumble · 06/06/2023 15:54

I agree let him pick
And prob Nike socks thats what mine wanted that age. Not trainer ones ankle ones.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 06/06/2023 15:58

My DS wears white Nike socks pulled up with his trainers. The Nike trainers he wears are limited as he's size 12 but he doesn't like the boot style trainers so best to ask. Also my older DS would only wear black and my 14yo would wear colours. Hope he has a lovely birthday

Let him pick tbh
Best way to ensure he gets exactly what he thinks is the best
Hope he has a great birthday

Yes the Jordan 1 Mids you posted are normally popular. Also these ones the dunk low pandas are in at the moment or these Air Force 1 ? I thought black was better as for a lad and goes with more clothes.

But then as it's Summer then you'd know if he'd prefer white ones ? 😀

NancyJoan · 06/06/2023 16:19

DD's boyfriend and his friends all seem to wear the white AirForce 1s.

Poachedeggs1 · 06/06/2023 16:19

Socks - most boys where I live (incl my 15 year old) wear white Nike sports socks (white with black tick) pulled up high. Sorry but I would not get black primark socks to wear with trainers.
Trainers are quite a personal choice. Dunks, Jordan 4’s and air max 95’s are popular amongst the teenagers I know.

planthelpadvice · 06/06/2023 16:25

Dunks and Jordans have a lot more variations than Air Forces so it could be easy to get it wrong - but I think they are cooler than AF which are ubiquitous now.

So as PP have said, probably best to get him to choose which ones he wants as there are so many variations (although the Jordan's you've linked to are probably a fairly safe bet as are the Dunk Pandas).

Agree that calf length white Nike socks are the thing to get.

FrankieAurora · 06/06/2023 16:37

The ones you've posted are great and I know DS17 would like them. If for some reason you'd prefer to give him the trainers than let him choose, they would be a good choice- just make sure you keep the receipt.

scrivette · 06/06/2023 16:38

I would probably give a budget and let him choose and would go for white Nike Socks.

Tannedandfake · 06/06/2023 16:41

My son’s 14 and wears Air Force

PartyPartyYeah · 06/06/2023 17:34

Definitely white Air Force 1's

caramelbambii · 06/06/2023 17:57

I'm probably the youngest one here haha just turned 24! Have siblings between the age range from 12, 16 etc so we all are basically down with the trends and I've worked in JD etc.

Low White Airforce 1's are always a go to, sell out every time of the year especially in summer season! (If you buy these make sure they do not have a single crease in them it's a very important rule for Airforces to not get creases on them especially wearing them, you'll be teased about it. Also crep protect works wonders. If you follow the instructions on the bottle it does actually work very well, people who say it doesn't haven't used it properly. Considering our weather is very temperamental it's worth an investment if your child was to wear it and it suddenly rained it's £10 but last a long time you don't need to spray much of it, but put it on outside as it's a strong chemical smell some people can't stand so in the balcony, garden, front door etc (I always test to see if I put enough by put water in a water bottle lid, if the water slides right off or forms a perfect water droplet you used enough). Dirty airforces or creases breaks your heart it's just the golden rules to follow part of the trend.

The mid high Jordan's are not favourable at all for real trainer heads (people have their preferences if they just buy trainers just for the look of them) it's the low ones that are the trendiest alongside the low Panda's. Both of which are so popular people que outside to buy them as they sell out within an hour of launch. The image attached are the exclusive ones I bought a few months ago still waiting for a decent occasion to rock them out.

Airforces are always a good go to. Can't go wrong with them but only the low ones. The high top ones are no longer trendy , that fizzled out completely when I was about 14/15, if you wear them now you'll be made fun of. Huaraches are a hit and miss with certain people, but they released new styles that are actually very nice but best to find out his taste so you know definitely what to avoid. If you would like to post a few of his preferences he's expressed he likes I'll be happy to let you know which ones you're better off going for! His choices will probably be popular sell outs so I could help you find out where to purchase them if the obvious shops don't have them.

I would avoid any air maxes (I live in London) and it's just not trendy anymore. It's perceived as an outdated look or chavy nowadays or boy's who think they're hard and up to trouble. You will mostly see older people rocking them as they just wear what they like, but not people within my age range and below as it's all about the trend.

Hope he has an amazing birthday x

By the way the photo I had uploaded are the low dunks , not Jordan's

Precipice · 06/06/2023 18:08

What does it matter what colour or style is 'fashionable' if it's a style/colour that doesn't suit your son (style affects fit), that he doesn't like, or that doesn't go with anything else he wears? Just get him to choose some trainers he'd like and you'll pay for them as long as they're within an acceptable budget for you.

Same with socks. Most people have preferences as to length. I don't like those short 'trainer' socks, but they're the type my sister wears. If we were to get socks based on 'fashion', one of us would be unhappy at any one time.

Ha! My Airforce 1s are creased and mucky to boot. I'll never get down with the kids at this rate...😂

SmartHome · 06/06/2023 23:09

I agree with low airforce 1 white or let him choose and socks def not trainer socks, mine where Adidas or Nike socks pulled up high. 3 teenage boys here and it's all AF1 or Air Jordan mids.

SoccerMum1 · 12/06/2023 12:18

Thanks everyone, i've decided to go for the classic black and white Nike Panda Dunks, https://www.kickgame.co.uk/products/nike-dunk-low-black-white-dd1391-100. DS should be well chuffed with them

Also got some of the long white Nike socks as you've all recommended (although I think these look horrid - remember when you'd get laughed at if you wore long white socks, seems to be the trend nowadays...
