Can you leave the oven on while nipping out?

I want to slow cook some pork shoulders for tea, but I’ll need to do the nursery pick-up after work, I’ll be out for about 20 minutes.

is it ok to leave them cooking? My mum used to leave the turkey in the oven from the early hours of the morning while we all slept.. so it makes me think it might be ok. But I really don’t want to burn down my house.. or my neighbours😂

I wouldn't think twice about it.

Unless it is a bit dodgy then I don't see why not.

I can set mine to come on or go off on a timer.

How many times has your oven caught fire when you have been in?

I program my oven to come on so tea is ready when I get home.
I don't think it would have that function if it wasn't safe.

Yes

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/06/2023 14:56

Yes, most ovens have timers, so you can set them cooking when you are out.

Of course.

tiggergoesbounce · 06/06/2023 14:56

No, i dont think i would again.
I leave cooking going because DH works from home, so he would be around if anything happened.
I have done it once when i had an appointment straight after tea time so tea needed to be ready as soon as we walked in the door, but i did worry whilst out, so i probably wouldnt again.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 06/06/2023 14:57

I wouldn't.

planthelpadvice · 06/06/2023 14:58

Yes of course. Is it an electric oven? It will be fine.

Thanks all! They’re in and on a low heat. There won’t be any dilly dallying on the nursery run though 😂
