Lies that didn’t work out well…..

I am a Grade A, top set numpty and hate the thought of offending or upsetting anyone and having just arrived home to an empty house, before DH and DC come home I thought I’d tell you all before I can share my story of numptiness with them….

So, I popped to our local town to pick up a few bits (on the bus) this morning. Picked up prescriptions, a few bits from Tesco and some other random things. I only had 2 bags so not weighed down with shopping. Whilst waiting for the bus a man that lives down the road from me spotted me sitting at the bus stop and came over. Now he’s a lovely guy, very chatty and always makes a fuss of our puppy but he does have a tendency to talk for very, very long periods of time….so when he offered me a lift I politely declined. He carries on chatting some more and insists he MUST give me a lift as I have so much to carry (2 small bags) again I politely decline. He carries on chatting some more then when some very fine drizzle begins to fall he again suggests that he give me a lift.

So in my wisdom and in an effort not to offend I tell him I’m not actually going home, I’m popping to see a friend in a village a few villages on from ours….”That’s no bother” he says, picking up my shopping and heading to the car.
So then he very sweetly dropped me in said village, 4/5 miles past the village we live in and I happily thank him, wave him off and call a taxi to take me home.
So my desperate attempts to not offend him landed me in a village where I know nobody, that didn’t have a bus running back to my village for hours, that made me miss my ‘sign for’ delivery, made my pup very annoyed with me for being so long and cost me £17 for a taxi!

Please tell me I’m not the only one that gets myself in to unnecessary situations just not to upset people?? 😂

I can’t say I have other than doing things I don’t want to do because I can’t say no! (Volunteering, attending events and such)

this is the funniest thing I’ve read for a long time!

Awwww OP, this is exactly something i would do!!!!

It made me lol x

Oh that's really funny. Sorry OP.

I once had someone taking to me on the phone (landline) and I didn't know how to get out of the convo.

I pressed the smoke alarm button and pretended it was a real alarm Blush

I know this is lighthearted but that would have really annoyed me, him picking up my shopping after telling him many times no thank you to his lift!

Love this story. 😁This kind of thing would happen to me. I once bought a massive religious text from folks that came to the door because I couldn't say no. you’ll need to let us know what your family say when you tell them the story.

I am very not like this but DD is.
She says she almost became a lesbian once for fear of causing offence

To clarify she was with 2 friends at college who are lesbians and someone came and invited them all to a group for lesbians. They said “you are all gay aren’t you?” And she didn’t want to say no and offend so she said yes
Her friends managed to stop laughing long enough to explain she wasn’t

I can be quite direct in some circumstances. I can easily tell an over friendly bloke in a pub where to go but I think because I knew this gentleman and because he is so sweet I just lost all power to be direct with him!
I just rang my mum and told her….she laughed constantly for a good 3/4 minutes and then told me I’d wasted his petrol and should have been honest or lied again and said my ‘friend has cancelled and could you just drop me home please’ instead of making him drive an extra 8 plus miles 😳 now I feel guilty!

@Hoppinggreen that made me laugh! I’d probably do the same!
