Does your town/city have a "Boden belt"?

My friend just made me laugh, describing how she's accidentally moved to her town's "Boden belt", and school runs are full of mums in their 40s all really skinny, toned, and with the image/style of those Boden models (slouchy trousers, etc., on skinny frames). Is this a thing? I have to say, most of the mums in their 40s everywhere I've lived are similar to me - probably a bit mumsy and filling out - and I've lived in a number of pretty middle class areas. Has everyone else heard of "Boden belts" where all the mums look like that?!

Funny

I don’t know what a dry robe is though.. off to google

RestingMurderousFace · 06/06/2023 20:42

Those types round here are all permatanned, big sunglasses and blow-drys, their skinny thighs clad in garish Sweaty Betty leggings. 🙄

BarelyLiterate · 06/06/2023 20:51

In Leicester, it’s more of a ‘George at Asda belt’. And it covers the entire city. Fortunately, parts of the county are rather more Boden. Or maybe Joules.

@shoesoftheworld I didn't say I personally was brazen or thick skinned but I would be for my dc if I had to. The government have systems, all types of teachers & authorities in place to help parents & children & they are paid by the taxpayer to do just that. It's not my problem. My children are my only concern, not yours or anyone elses.

Carsarelife · 06/06/2023 20:56

Round here it's a mix of Boden, Gym Clothes or Just NO fashion sense at all.
Small ish village with 1 school, station and handful of shops
Mums are mostly mid 30's - 50's

Doggymummar · 06/06/2023 21:01

The mums round here, commuter town in South just look frazzled and human. They seem to have three under 5 and are juggling cycles and scooters and usually a beagle or Labrador as well. They look a bit better on the afternoon school run.

Beaverbridge · 06/06/2023 21:02

Mostly black leggings, hoodies and big white trainers near me.

Hhhffr · 06/06/2023 21:07

There is definitely the sweaty betty belt around here - South London. For the life of me, why does anyone need to wear a dry robe in Crouch end

Nailed it.

The ponds darling, the ponds!

(Hampstead heath for the out-of-Londoners)

Snowpaw · 06/06/2023 21:59

hahaha.

As an aside, I often go to the gym / for a run straight after walking DD to school and I feel so self conscious if I rock up in gym clothes because will people think I am one of "those Mums" in athletic wear. No, I am a Mum with very short amount of free time each day so going straight from drop off is best way of doing the juggle! I feel like I need to wear a sign saying "I am not wearing this to make a fashion statement, I am actually doing exercise".

The snobbery on this thread is quite something.

agreed

ErinAndTonic · 06/06/2023 22:04

I'd be inclined to agree that Boden is not considered trendy at all!
I'd say it's more a north face belt around here.. . 😅

TheDuchessOfMN · 06/06/2023 22:16

It’s either gym wear (vest-top or tee and leggings) OR dress (usually maxi) with denim jacket (without in this weather) with white trainers (sandals in this weather).

There really isn’t much of anything else… maybe the odd loose chino type trousers here and there.

Not necessarily boden, but I associate that brand with particular colours and print rather than a “look”

Flatwhitewithoatmilk · 06/06/2023 22:26

Another one for the Sweaty Betty belt. Maybe a very long but definitely black sleeveless padded 'gillet' to keep the thigh muscles warm for pilates. Very likely wearing an Apple fitness watch , probably has dog , multiple scooters & a slightly harried expression which softens slightly right after drop off. See also the unnecessarily large car belt.

You sound like fun. It's observational comedy. : , - )

oh sure i get it, but some of the comments seem kind of snobby/ nose in the air type.. i am very fun though

Gough20 · 06/06/2023 22:43

Snobbery would be:

Look at the chavs in their Primarni, badly home died hair, Croydon facelifts, kids called Chantelle and Dane

or

Look at those posh gits in their gym kit, driving their 4x4’s, kids called Arlo and Tilda

I don’t see it.

Rightnowstraightaway · 06/06/2023 22:48

I've never heard of a Boden belt, but I suppose I might live there. I'm 40+, thin and toned, and like to wear natural fibres! I see lots of children in Frugi etc. Affluent area with below average obesity I'd say.

Oh come on, it’s jolly social commentary. Fashion tribes are diverting.
