Can I get your opinions please on guest bed type

My mother has a spare room and we have family due home from abroad. It's a large room but I don't know the dimensions. There's a double bed already in the room.

We need to get another bed for a child who is tall. I will need to get a single be at least.

I don't know what type of bed to get.
I was looking at a day bed. Its a single bed with a frame or back around three sides. I took dimensions. It would fit in the room however it's a very delicate and fragile situation. I think my mother might have dementia but it's not diagnosed and she easily gets her knickers in a twist even over the most simplist of things. I know if I was to rearrange a few things in the spare room she would lose her head.

I am thinking maybe a fold up bed. I found one on Amazon. However we will still have the same issue on size and location in the room. It would fit but I would have to rearrange a dresser to a different corner in the room.

I like the idea of the fold up bed because when it's done, I can fold it up and store it away.

However I really like the day bed. The day bed will allow me to manuvover some of her storage more easily.

There's pros and cons to each. What would you guys recommend?
Day bed or fold up bed?

Sounds like it's about your mum, not the bed.

Can you talk to her about it first, gently?

How long are the guests staying for? If it’s not permanent you could look at a blow up? They have good ones that are high and v comfy now

They are coming into the country and their first night will be in a hotel just to sleep after their flights. Then after that, 12 days.

It's not really about my mother. She is part of it. It's a delicate situation. The spare room was one of my brothers rooms and he emigrated and I think she doesn't want any of his memories to be wiped away but that's not what's happening. It's about making space for guests who is also family.

Can you involve your Mum in the decision? Otherwise go with the day bed. If she has dementia the whole situation with family coming to stay may get confusing and stressful for her so you'll need lots of patience. Good luck.

I would think the fold up would be less obtrusive for your mum in that situation.

This is the fold up bed I am looking at. Would this be comfy?

Yeah, I'm thinking a fold up bed won't be in the face too much.
I think I would love the day bed but doubt it's going to happen.

I don't have a diagnosis for her as of yet. It seems as if doctors are looking for forgetfulness or a decline in daily living tasks and that's not happening. There's a series of oddities here and there from my mother.

She is finding the idea of guests overwhelming even though I am doing the work involved preparing. Even though they are family and there's nothing wrong. I think it's been so long since we've seen them, maybe she's anxious that way.

I fell in love with the daybed I was looking at online.

I will add a picture of the daybed from jysk. It's so pretty. I know it doesn't come with a base or mattress. I would love to get it but it's a delicate situation at home and one to be navigated carefully. I think I will have to stay away from the day bed unfortunately.

I found this other sofa bed online.

It's an ottoman folding chair thing. So it's between this and the folding bed.

Any help in picking a bed please? I don't know what to choose. The ottoman bed or the fold up bed.

If it's her home and she has capacity then can you really bring furniture in, even though it's sensible to do so? I would instead make the visitors aware so that they can prep accordingly.

Will future guests need a single bed in that room? If not I’d just get a fold up bed or blow up bed. The ottoman one is pricey.

Fold up would be perfect.

I'm sure they will appreciate the effort you are going too

Yes. Future guests will likely need a bed. My family bought a site nearby and would like to build. A single bed would be needed.

So should I be getting a regular single bed instead?

I don't mind paying. Whatever one will be the most comfortable between the ottoman and the fold up bed.

It sounds like you have enough to do. Get the folding bed rather than creating more work or stress for you and your mother for 12 days' sleep

Perfect, decision. I do have a lot to do and can't be building a bed frame.
