Need to come off social media but I have a business

Liuckle · 05/06/2023 19:52

It's become a mental grind and I'm getting bogged down with overthinking about what I'm posting and likes etc

I do promote my business on it but I think I'd be better off coming away

The thought of complete freedom from it is bliss

Do you know if your social media leads to more business? If so, which channel? Maybe focus on the one where you get the most business from. Alternatively you could pay someone to post it for you - you create content and let someone else post and money to. Otherwise think about where you’re getting business from e.g. networking / selling at markets / recommendations and out your energy there.

Thanks
Tbh 99 percent of my business comes from word of mouth and in person networking

So it begs the question why do SM?

I'll be honest and admit part of it is validation. A need to show and prove I'm successful

It's not that I'm unhappy in real life. I have a lovely family and lots to appreciate

But it probably comes from a difficult childhood

I like the idea of paying someone to do it!

Yes, pay someone to do it. Problem solved.

CPandme · 05/06/2023 20:15

Can you come off for three months and monitor the new bookings to see how it changes. Also ask people how they heard about you. Start immediately before any SM break. If you have a business can you set up a business Facebook account? If you are scrolling from there it might feel more like skiving than if you have your personal profile go to add a business post and happen to scroll all the personal stuff.

OMGitsnotgood · 05/06/2023 20:21

Do you promote your business through your personal FB account? If so, why don't you set up a FB account soley for your business? i know a few people who have separate accounts for personal and for business. No reason you couldn't just have one for your business?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 05/06/2023 20:24

Use a tool like hootsuite, you can build a whole load of posts in there and schedule them to post to any of your social media platforms in advance, you still get to put your business out there without needing to view all the other stuff.

I'm more likely to use a business that doesn't rely on social media. Within my circle of family and friends most of us feel the same - we are all done with Meta based social media and the like.

SleepingisanArt · 05/06/2023 20:39

We had business Facebook accounts for 2 hospitality businesses. Very few of our customers came to us that way. Mostly it was excellent SEO, some Google ads (very specific and highly targeted) and word of mouth. Constantly updating photos on the website and sending out a regular newsletter (fun not at all corporate) which sometimes had a special offer in it. Personally I prefer a business with a proper website and comes recommended by someone I trust - I'm mid 50s and very old fashioned eh?

Schedule your full month of socials on one day, then you don’t need to look for a month.

Our social media didn't draw in much business so I came off it. I feel much better. We use word of mouth and markets now.

Startingagainandagain · 26/12/2023 07:50

I think as a business you should definitely keep a social media presence.

Even if you think that you don't get much enquiries from there people definitely check out social media pages for businesses to find out more about their general ethos, activities and so on.

I would just post a couple of times a week and focus on a couple of channels where you have the most followers rather than try to be on every social media platforms.

There are tools you can use to schedule your posts in advance as well so you can maybe schedule your posts on Monday and forget about it for the rest of the week.

I have an art and craft small business that I do alongside my job for a company and I use social media to showcase my work. I use Twitter & Instagram and don't bother about any other. I don't just post the final works. I also show people how I create things in my studio and so on so they get a behind the scene view.

You can also post about any charity events that you do and so on. It does not all have to be about selling.
