I know we have to share this planet, and I'm delighted I get to share my garden with you. But could you please stop the incessant cooing just for a while? Maybe between 5am-7am daily? Cheers Brew

😂 I joked to husband this morning that the birds chirping would get an eviction notice if they were human…. They wake me as early as 3:30 chirping and I’m in the middle of a busy suburb!

DingsBum · 05/06/2023 07:02

I feel your pain 😨

The people who live on the farm over the road from us have a peacock and there are many times I've fantasised about kebab-ing the big blue bastard!!

Florissante · 05/06/2023 07:24

I still laugh when I remember the passage in The Diary of Adrian Mole when Adrian complains about the bloody toothless birds chirping at the break of dawn when he had toothache.

ThreeRingCircus · 05/06/2023 07:27

Oh yes. I've taken to only filling the birdfeeder a couple of times a week as otherwise the local troop of ASBO starlings raid it daily at 5am and are ridiculously loud. 😂

I believe research has showed that birds maintain a more antisocial (to us) schedule in urban areas. They used to think it was the light pollution messing with their body clocks but they now believe it's actually more the noise - i. e. they tweet when it quiet as it's easier for their mating calls to be heard.

I only know this because of the little tree bastard outside my window who sings away at 2-3am. 😠

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 05/06/2023 07:37

Oh I love them!
I have beautiful collared dove who comes on to my balcony to say "thank you for feeding us." He sits and looks at me through the window with his head on the side, and sometimes he brings his girlfriend, too.
All of the other birds are ungrateful bastards.

Tarkan · 05/06/2023 07:40

We have starlings that nest just behind our gutter in a tiny hole every year. I swear there's no louder noise than a group of newly hatched baby starlings when they're hungry first thing in the morning.

Thepleasureofyourcompany · 05/06/2023 07:42

Rooks are active from just before 5am. I love then but seriously come on guys

dudsville · 05/06/2023 07:44

I love the morning chorus we get, but i do use white noise to stop it waking me.

greenacrylicpaint · 05/06/2023 07:46

we have magpies nesting in a tree on one side of the house. they make a lot of noise if a cat or a dog come close (popular dog walking route).
on the other side we have seagulls nesting on a roof. compared to those the magpies are subdued.

the collared doves are positively sweet voiced.

🤣🤣 kebab ing the big blue bastard, I'm sorry for the noise he makes but this really made me laugh

AiryFairy1 · 05/06/2023 07:47

I laughed a lot reading a post a while ago now where a poster’s boyfriend got in a major rage with the dawn chorus, shouting out the window to them to STFU Grin

I think the overall verdict was HWBU!

Thepleasureofyourcompany · 05/06/2023 07:48

Peacocks are awful.

MotherofPearl · 05/06/2023 07:51

I love crows but the crows in my garden are so loud, and quite regularly wake me up. The worst is when the local fox comes into our garden - they absolutely hate him and shriek and divebomb him until he leaves. It's a pity that this has happened at about 5:30am twice in the last week.

Clever crows 👏👏👏

Try looking after these feathery devils for a week. When the suns up, they are up. 🤣

oooh and parakeets.

they can sound like bickering couples.
have not seen/heard them for a while.

HelpMeGetThrough · 05/06/2023 08:32

These two were so funny. The green budgie is only 6 months old, so into everything, the blue one is just about 3 years, so is more chilled.

CornedBeef451 · 05/06/2023 09:01

I have some aggressively chirpy birds in my garden that start up about 4.30am. I've found I can drown them out just enough to sleep with a white noise app on my phone.

Currently favouring the box fan selection, much better than the previous power shower noise I was using. DH prefers a rainforest noise but the random croaking frog wakes me up.

However, I can only hear the birds because we've moved to a much quieter area so I am trying to appreciate my new chirpy neighbours as they are much nicer than lorries hurtling past or the dirt biker who liked to have a nice ride at 11.30 every night when I'd just gone to sleep!

BreviloquentBastard · 05/06/2023 09:08

We had a cuckoo hatch in our garden in the tree directly below my bedroom window last month. It's lovely to hear him because they're becoming so unusual now, but I do wish he'd hold off on the relentless cuckooing until after 7am. Looking forward to him buggering off back home in a month or so!

I get the occasional corvid flying past my window at 6am and emitting an outrageously loud CAW while they do it. Knowing them they know rightly and are doing it on purpose.

We have wood pigeons.

”Me toe hurts, Betty! Me toe hurts, Betty!”

Fuck OFF.

Come and live in SW London. It's like being in a tropical jungle some days, noisy little bastards.

wowie69 · 05/06/2023 10:44

I'd rather have the cooing than the frantic flapping I get from the twatting pigeons outside my window 🙄
