Is this odd?

I took my two DD (9 and 7) today. We were at the machine choosing our snacks in the foyer, discussing what to get when we were approached by a man in his 60s. He started trying to talk the girls asking them their names and age. I was trying to rush the transaction, but it failed as I didn’t put my pin in – he immediately got his card and paid (when I tried to pay first he laughed and said he was going to do it but I was too fast). He seemed particularly taken with my youngest and bent down to whisper in her ear how she should always love her mum, she’s only got one.

We rushed away but I just felt the whole thing was odd, and I’m not usually a cynical person. He just seemed really intent and focused on my daughters. He was on his own and the only film on was the Little Mermaid.

AIBU and he was just a kind person? Or is it odd?

Should mention I asked him a couple of questions like his name and he was cagey. I think that's partly why I'm worried.
