Fashion websites and ethnicity

Over the years I have been happy to see much more diversity on shopping websites for women's clothes. Something that started to stand out to me though is the frequency in which black models have shaved or extremely closely cropped hair. I am talking across the board, so COS, M&S, Zara, Seasalt, Toast, Poetry, Asos, etc.

So is this a trend and I am out of the loop? I don't think it's a coincidence. When I am out and about this doesn't seem to be a very common hairstyle. Then again I am in South Cumbria, so it isn't terribly worldly.

Why am I asking? I notice a pattern and am intrigued. There's a fair bit more of an assortment of hairstyles from other ethnicities. I am also cynical of marketing and hope that it isn't something weird at corporate level.
