Will these swim shorts be allowed in a French swimming pool?

Got in trouble on French campsite last year because DS had what I’d think of as swimming shorts. We were told they only allow those tight lycra-y shorts. Apparently this is totally normal so I need to be prepared this year.

I absolutely love this little set from Next. Are the shorts tight enough? Maybe just?

Any French or Francophile types about?

Merci!

Have you a photo? I don't have the Next app.

The link is taking me to a general landing page, not a specific item

Have you checked the campsite website as they may not be that bothered. Some are, some aren't.

Rainallnight · 04/06/2023 20:00

Sorry! Hope this works. They do look pretty snug actually

We’re going back to same place we got in trouble last year!

I can't view that link OP but in my experience it varies from swimming pool to swimming pool. Years ago, only "speedo" type trunks were allowed but i have found that this has been relaxed a bit over the years. If I was you, I'd buy the cute set, but also get a cheap pair of lycra trunks just in case.

They look like they'd be fine to me, based on many French holidays. Rules are definitely relaxing in general - I wonder if the invention of UV suits is having to make a lot of places rethink their policy. Although it sounds like your campsite is still pretty strict.

Smartiepants79 · 04/06/2023 20:04

I would say they’d be fine.
We found some places are strict, others less so.
I think those are ok.

Hollyhead · 04/06/2023 20:06

It helps to understand the rule reason - they don’t want people going beach to pool in dirty sandy swim shorts. The hope is the Lycra requirement will make people change between the two.

Rainallnight · 04/06/2023 20:07

This campsite is literally hundreds of miles from a beach! I don’t mind them having the rule - just need to be prepared this time.

I would play safe and stick with speedo style pants.

ArcticSkewer · 04/06/2023 20:09

I'm not sure, they don't look as tight as they could do, and if this place is already strict why not just go for the proper lycra type?

NannyGythaOgg · 04/06/2023 20:11

In the mid 80s my son was refused entry into a french swimming pool in santdard UK swim shorts. We had a hot fortnight, he was 12 and was far too embarrassed to wear 'budgie smugglers' which were the only approved wear.

I am amazed that they are still enforcing this rule.

It's also to stop people going into the pool straight from walking around the streets in board shorts and a t-shirt which lots of people do on holiday - not just from sandy beaches.

Quitelikeacatslife · 04/06/2023 20:14

They will be fine is just board shorts style that isn't allowed

Spudlet · 04/06/2023 20:14

They look like they fit pretty snugly and they’re hardly the sort of thing you’d be wandering the streets in - but if you’re really not sure could you maybe email the campsite and ask?

Thingsthatgo · 04/06/2023 20:32

If it were me I'd buy this set, and also a little pair of speedo type swimmers too. They only cost a couple of quid, and he can wear them with the rash vest if necessary. It's always good to have a spare pair anyway, we always took a couple because we'd often swim more than once a day, and the other pair would be drying.

Tangocrocus · 04/06/2023 20:34

We have this set. Definitely a snug fit.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 04/06/2023 20:34

I think they would be fine.

Dubaibutwhy · 04/06/2023 20:35

They look fine. My DP has a similar style for French campsites
