How do I clean this toilet please?

Hi. I've tried leaving bleach in it overnight, and I've tried Harpic tablets over night, but it's still stained. Should I try emptying the water out and putting bleach directly on the stain, or what should I try?
TIA

How do I clean this toilet please?

You could try and chip it off with a screwdriver, carefully, once it starts to go it's quite satisfying.

cilit bang

It's limescale. Natural method. Get a plastic scrubber and a plastic scraper and go at it with some. Lemon juice/white vinegar.

Non natural method - Empty the water out as best you can. Boil the kettle and tip into the toilet with some kettle descaler

Cola

Coke.

If you can empty the water out then that is the best way, you can pour down a load of kettle descaler and leave it overnight to do most of the work for you. For any stubborn deposits, finish off with a plastic freezer scraper and one of those green scourers.

Pumice stone sounds crazy but only thing that worked for mine

Wobblysausage · 04/06/2023 14:24

Get a toilet brush and keep shoving it in and out of the bend and it will create a sort of vacuum that will suck all the water out the toilet then put the product directly on the stain and leave for about 10 minutes and then scrub it and flush. I’m a cleaner who cleans about 50 toilets a day and that’s what I do!

Pfaffingabout · 04/06/2023 14:29

If it's limescale, then citric acid works a treat. Look for it near kettle descaling products.

I do my kettle and pans first, then empty as much water out of the toilet as possible by plunging with the toilet brush and put in the (warm) citrus acid solution. Leave for a couple of hours then scrub with the toilet brush

tsmainsqueeze · 04/06/2023 14:29

Domestos zero limescale , i couldn't believe how this worked on one application.
As for the other marks a good abrasive scrubber ,cif and good old elbow grease .

ChocHotolate · 04/06/2023 14:32

Could it be that the porcelain has chipped off and it's the unglazed porcelain that you are seeing rather than limescale?

greenspaces4peace · 04/06/2023 14:34

Rubber gloves, elbow grease and scrub away. Use whatever tools necessary, bristle brush, lava stone, butter knife, steel wool.

Dryfield · 04/06/2023 14:34

I found a pumice stone worked well on one like that. And then a daily swish round with a bit of liquid soap on a loo brush and weekly loo cleaner keeps it nice.

jazzybelle · 04/06/2023 14:35

To get most of the water out, get a toilet brush and keep pumping/pushing it down. This pushes the a lot of the water down the toilet.

Premiumbondbaby · 04/06/2023 14:37

@SnowyMouse i had a similar situation tried baking soda, coke etc but what worked was emptying out the water and using Harpic Power Plus Toilet Cleaner 750Ml.

I left it and then used a brush and flushed. Had to apply some more to the really stubborn stains.

Isanyholeagoal · 04/06/2023 14:37

Caustic soda crystals and a pot of boiling water after emptying the toilet water and leave it overnight. Must use gloves though as it’s acid

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 04/06/2023 14:37

Cleaner here... Bale all the water out with a cup and cloth... Cover with black harpic...be gone by tomorrow.

HappyMe6 · 04/06/2023 14:39

Agree with Thesunwillcomeout

miraveille · 04/06/2023 14:39

Yes to pumice stone if it's limescale. Empty out as much water as you can with a cup or something that fits, then scrub. Definitely don't use bleach

WithIcePlease · 04/06/2023 14:41

Yes - get water out. A bottle of black harpic and leave overnight. I had to do it twice to a toilet that was literally black. I didn't need to chip at it but have done so in other places.
Or get some kilrock and do similar
House in v hard water area here.

SnowyMouse · 04/06/2023 14:41

Thanks all! I've added black harpic to my shopping list!

Only just seen this! I sometimes do this and then spray with limescale remover because even though it's not discoloured, I know it's there and over time, it will only get worse.

I saw someone on TV who did this. She then used her hairdryer to dry up the remaining water and then she cleaned it. It might have been on that Obsessive, Compulsive Cleaners programme.

Yerroblemom1923 · 04/06/2023 14:46

How did it when get like this in the first place? Sorry not helpful, just curious!

SnowyMouse · 04/06/2023 14:48

It hadn't been cleaned in a long time, I can't do it myself due to disability.

I have used Spirit of Salt on this sort of thing before. I'd tried everything else by then so if that hadn't worked it would have been a new toilet.

It did work, within half an hour. You can often only get it from fairly specific DIY and plumbing places though as it is very strong. It is pure hydrochloric acid and needs to be used with good ventilation as it gives off fumes. It cannot be mixed with any other toilet or household cleaners either, so if you do use it give the toilet three or four good flushes first.
