Dominos pizzas - how many?

Thechameleonsshadow · 04/06/2023 08:25

I have 7 12 year olds coming over today for DD birthday. How many large pizzas should I be ordering?

Sounds like a SATS maths question 😂

Probably 4, maybe 5, large pizzas should do it I'd say.

ShadowPuppets · 04/06/2023 08:29

My initial thought was that you’d be fine with 4. I think I’d be tempted to order 5 as backup though and begrudgingly scoff the spare one

musixa · 04/06/2023 08:30

Toppings on pizza need to be considered - do you know what they all like, and any vegans/vegetarians to consider? You don't want to order 5 different ones and they only like two of them.

5 I’d say. I’d get 2 cheese, 2 pepperoni and one chicken or ham and pineapple probably. There are 10 pieces in each I think and they’d probably want 3-4 pieces each but accounting for different tastes and some left over id err on the side of caution

Thechameleonsshadow · 04/06/2023 08:33

Great, thank you. There are two veggies and others all eat meat.

5 should be enough. Just order a couple of basic margherita ones in case any of them are a bit fussy/vegetarian.

RocketIceLollie · 04/06/2023 08:34

Yeah a couple of plain cheese ones I agree. There's always someone who doesn't like mushrooms or peppers 😆

Said this recently on another thread 😄- always get more veggie ones than meat as the meat eaters will probably eat the veggie ones too. Bitter experience from ordering pizzas for a work thing, and a couple of vegetarians were left with hardly anything they could eat as the meat eaters were eating both.

I would slightly tweak to two cheese, one vegetarian, and two different meat ones for reasons stated above.

@musixa - ha! Great tip, thank you.

And why wouldn't the meat eaters also have the vegetable pizza? I eat meat but don't like meat on pizza and despair at any sort of buffet/sharing selection situation that seems to be 80% processed pork and a small token vegetable pizza that apparently you're only allowed to eat if you're vegetarian.

However, as these are 12 YOs, you also may have to account for the 'eww vegetables' factor. As delivery is usually fairly quick, maybe you could ask them when they get there, what sort they'd like?

As for how many, it really depends on what sort of eaters they are. I'm sure that someone will come along and say that they'll eat at least a whole pizza each and then start looking for something else and someone else will say that a slice or two is more than enough so you'll be fine with two pizzas and a side salad.

But if there's leftovers you can always eat them yourself afterwards.

I agree completely - it was 'my bad' underestimating the popularity of the vegetarian pizzas.

RocketIceLollie · 04/06/2023 09:05

I'd ask if there are any vegetarians and then make sure they get first dabs on the vegetarian pizzas. Then leave them to it.

itsgettingweird · 04/06/2023 09:09

7 12 yo will want 4-5 slices each.

So half a pizza per person approx.

So yes I agree 5.

But I'd also consider (just to throw in another idea!) getting 4 large pizzas and chicken strips, dough balls and wedges to mix it up a bit!!!

The veggies can eat dough balls and wedges too which gives them some more choice.

2 cheese and tomato.
1 pepperoni
1 ham and pineapple

Plus the sides.

Cherryblossoms85 · 04/06/2023 09:11

I would get the veggie supreme though, not the margarita. Dominos margarita is grim.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/06/2023 09:16

Have a look at the meal deals and see if you can get sides and make it cheaper. Dominos isn’t dominos without the spicy chicken wings with Franks hot sauce!

tealgate · 04/06/2023 09:24

You can't buy 5 pizzas at Dominoes Shock you wouldn't get the BOGOF deal. Always buy in even numbers!

Paperlate · 04/06/2023 09:36

Yes get the deals. You get 2 large pizzas and 2 sides plus hot cookies.

aSofaNearYou · 04/06/2023 09:36

I'd aim for half the pizza each, so 4.

Paperlate · 04/06/2023 09:37

You might get away with ordering 2 big deals if you get wedges as sides.

CatsOnTheChair · 04/06/2023 09:38

I'd check the toppings with the kids.
I recently did this for 14 year old boys - one medium each - and the majority wanted just ham.

FavouriteDogMug · 04/06/2023 09:50

I would go for the margarita or a choose your own with just a couple of vegetables, rather than the set vegetarian options. Dominoes vegetarian have a lot of different vegetables on them which some kids might not like. I find kids tend to like plainer options. Also the chicken strippers are nice but really pricey for what they are, unless you can get some kind of deal.

tommika · 04/06/2023 09:57

Always go for the deals.
Pizzas are priced to cover for the cost of sending out a car or moped and to allow for all the ‘discounts’

Work out a few of the different deals of buy one get one free, meal deals with sides, x% off when you spend £y and unless inconvenient check the collection only deals

(Last week we were doing after hours rearrangement on a shop andnmade two orders with neighbouring Pizza Hut and Dominos.
The others ordered from Pizza Hut with delivery before they realised that I could pick up, I ordered Dominos.

They ordered first with ‘half an hour delivery’, I drove up the road and arrived while pizzas were still baking - was handed them as soon as they were ready, drove back, we ate and were finished before the delivery arrived …. About 46 minutes - because you’re somewhere along the line of a number of orders with one driver in that direction)

WeAllHaveWings · 04/06/2023 10:00

Order more than you think you need, keep one or two back in the kitchen until the others are fully finished and let them have them if still hungry or reheat the next day and have for dinner (with a massive MN salad). Dominos Pizza is actually better straight from your own oven.

I would only get one meat one or let the kids choose toppings (share 1/2 Pizza each) then get a couple of veg ones extra, i love meat, but dominos Pizza meat is vile.

Thechameleonsshadow · 04/06/2023 10:03

Ha, now officially confused - although older DD has just informed me if I download the app there are lots of offers on there which is good as they’re really expensive 🙈
