Arctic Monkeys - Hillsborough Park with DD9?

My dd is 9 (10 in December!) and LOVES Arctic Monkeys. She is desperate to see them, and has never been to a gig before. I've been to many gigs over the years but only a few since dd was born so I'm a bit out of practice. I probably would have tried to get us seated tickets at another venue but wasn't aware it was happening when they went on sale.

They are playing in Sheffield at Hillsborough Park this weekend. I'm originally from Sheffield but live about an hour away now so not too far. Under 18's are allowed but it's full standing as it's in a park (so no seating). They have released some more tickets and I'm really tempted but unsure about taking her if it's standing only. We obviously would find a less crowded spot to enjoy the concert and wouldn't be in the thick of it.

Would you do it, or do you think she's too young?

I’m going today - with a 14-year old. I have questions about food, drinks, bag sizes, toilets and traffic, because I am apparently the mummest of mums.

given it’s in the park - any food vans inside or do we need to eat first? This is pressing as son is apparently bottomless at the moment.

will we be allowed to take water in, of our own, or will they assume it’s vodka? It’s gonna be warm…

any restrictions on bags?

how hellish is getting home? I have a parking space booked but toying with using the tram or taxi so I can have a drink. Are 90 minute waits for trams, for real? Can you get taxis from the b&q car park like at tramlines - or anywhere?!

There's food inside - saw lots of people with pizzas and big Yorkshire pudding and mash/peas etc. The food looked good actually! We ate in the car on the way down as we were travelling an hour and wasn't sure we'd have time to eat.

You can't take any food or drink in at all so be prepared to buy from the bar. Soft drinks are 3.50 for a can of coke or bottle of Sprite so it's pricey. You can buy a bottle of water and then there's refill stations, but you can't take an empty bottle in with you. You can take a bag in up to A4 size.

We entered through Gate 1 (it will say which gate on your ticket), and once you get in, go to the right and behind the ice cream van you'll be able to get a wristband for the front pit, which is the front section. We got right to the front but to the side of the stage and there was loads of space. You have to get them early though as they only give out a certain amount. Down that side of the stage too, they opened big gates to exit at the end too so we were straight out.

We pre-booked parking at Hillsborough College just behind Owlerton stadium and as we got out straight away, we only waited 5 mins in traffic to get out. Not sure about trams etc but there were masses of people looking for taxis and waiting about.

Thank you so much for that info - so so helpful. You’re a star.

That’s where I’ve booked parking too. Think I’ll drive.

Oh yes definitely drive then. I'd have not liked to be hanging around trying to get a taxi or tram from the look of how busy it was. If you leave quickly enough you won't be stuck in traffic very long!

You'll have an amazing time. They were so good! Here's our view from the front pit Grin

We attempted to get a taxi/Uber as didn't fancy the 90 minute wait for trams to start and ended up having to walk back to the city centre (along with 1000's of others) so I would drive! We got back into the city centre at 11.45 and no trams had got through at that point.

Toilets were hellish as there were nowhere near enough, I must admit we had a great night and AM were amazing but it's a pretty crap venue!!

We still had a fab night though so don't be out off, I'd advise driving though.

So my mum lives up the road so we parked at hers so can't comment on public transport. It's chaotic getting out, we waited for a bit til it died down to leave.
We didn't take any drinks in as I assumed we wouldn't be allowed, we had sweets for the kids though in their bags and they didn't check theirs, briefly looked through mine, I just had a side bag, but I saw people with tote bags inside.
There was an ice cream vans selling cans of pop too, I'm not sure if there's actual food, we ate first, we didn't actually go in until 7.50 we sat on the field until the queues went down.
Toilets are outside the venue, my kids did bush wees as and when needed 😆.
But overall, enjoy, because I want to go and do it all again 😭 I'm very jealous, you'll have a great night!!
